This thread had me thinking about the hoses today. Both the upper and lower hoses are slightly bulging at the engine side. I did forget to check to see if they are softening up yet.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Word of caution for OEM radiator hoses on the KJ.

They are EPDM hoses and will form a hard scale on the inside edge(coolant neglect and age),never squeeze them hard to test them as this can break that scaling off and plug op the cooling system(heater core and radiator).Easy way to test them is to very gently squeeze them(cold engine no pressure) and if you hear a crunching sound they need to be replaced,or if they are bulging like the pics.

EPDM hoses typically last 10 years or so compared to regular rubber hoses which are 5 or less.

That is very good info Troy. Of course when you say scaling...The topic of OEM brown Hoat comes to mind and the question I want to know is...
Would GO5 also offer a crusty layer of scaling due to neglect or age ?
I guess changing the Hoat every 3 years would be better than waiting to 5 as well then.

AM Coffee & installed the new Upper Rad Hose.
Basically removed clamp at rad first with a can below & put rad side back on then moved to engine side drop hose into into can.
Got about a quart of Hoat out. Nice & clean as well! No scaling inside of old rad hose, was spotless in there, luckily.

I am going to wait until next year when I do a rad flush to install the new thermostat & then buy a lower rad hose as well.
Started jeep with reservoir cap off it dropped a bit as it warmed and added 3/4 of a quart of new Hoat. Placed reservoir pressure cap back on and all is well. No leaks.
Will check reservoir level again (when cold) as I expect to have to add some more Hoat again to bring the cold line up....will see...

Ok So...yesterday after Jeep sat for 8 hours temp was at 80F, I added a bit more Hoat.
Then it sat completely overnight temp was 65F then warmed up all the way to 220F.
This is now the second full hot/ cold cycle in photo.

The levels are now within a good range.
Will continue to monitor levels, however I think we are done here now! :party52:
