The alignment is done on the front. There is nothing to adjust on the rear. -
CJust for the record, I've changed starters in several 3.7L 2005's. Removed the front drive shaft and didn't have to touch the exhaust.

CYou need a new regulator.

CIt is a bit tricky to remove and replace, but definitely replace the regulator. I have had good luck with a NAPA replacement. YMMV.
