You lucky, lucky bastard.... No amount of fiddling has gotten mine working.

Awhile ago, I posted how I examined and determined that the ridiculous double cable, double clutch, double spring engagement mechanism is actually still working fine on Giddyup…rather the lack of a parking brake was the result of what I found inside the rotor "hat"… pieces of the cheap Master Pro parking brake shoes that I had installed some years ago. :oops: This time I used a set of PowerStop semi metallic and bonded parking brake pads from Rockauto (as if the semi metallic will make a difference in parking shoe engagement :rolleyes:)

That said, today I actually used a beam compass to exactly measure the internal diameter of the rotor "hat" and then transfer that measurement to the outside of the new parking brake shoes (minus 1/64") measured at the shoe lining but diagonally across the top and bottom pivot points, as described in the FSM, while turning out the adjusting star by hand to match that measurement.

At that point, after I finished installing the main brake pads and reinstalled the wheels, I pulled the parking brake handle up 3 clicks, and then continued to tighten the shoe adjustment star until I could no longer turn either wheel while trying to hard by hand (obviously with the car in neutral). It took about an additional 8- 12 clicks from my first measured setting to get where I couldnt move wither wheel by hand.

Then I backed up my driveway about 300', drove her down the mountain to town, then back up and into the shop, jacked her ass up again, set the parking brake handle up 3 clicks again, and then readjusted the parking shoe adjustment star one more time until I couldn't turn wither wheel by hand AGAIN. It only took about 4-6 clicks on each side that time to get there.

Finally, I released the parking brake, spun the wheel, and detected no parking brake contact.
All that fiddling seems to have done the trick!!!

^^^ Oh yes, its super important to make sure there is ju st a little SLACK on both sides of the parking brake cable at the brake caliper backing platse BEFORE doing ANY of the above mentioned adjustments,

One thing the sport models don't have that bugs me is no outside temperature reading :) So I picked up a used EVIC from a wrecker and decided to cut a large hole in my headliner! Got it installed this evening and hopefully get it wired up tomorrow.

I haven’t driven my Liberty in several weeks. Today I clicked the remote start from inside the house to make sure the battery stays charged and engine seals stay lubricated.

Jeepy is retired from daily driver duty, as she has about 232.000 miles. She is still my trailer tow rig, off road fieldwork truck, and backup vehicle. If we get significant snowfall this winter, she will get some seat time. There are a few maintenance items and mods yet to do, so hopefully she will not feel neglected. These jobs will mostly have to wait until summer, as I have like zero free time. The one thing I would like to do soon is dial in the rear control arms that I put in a couple of months ago, because they clunk over bumps. I must not have torqued them down with the full weight of the Jeep on them, although I thought I had done it correctly at the time. It is tricky getting the socket and ratchet extension through the coil springs to tighten the axle-end nuts and bolts.

The new daily driver is a 2016 Ford Focus Electric! It is a short range EV (76 miles when it isn’t frigid outside, maybe 50 miles right now with temperatures in the 30’s). The FFE gets me 90% of everywhere I need to go in the city and the surrounding suburbs. I’m paying roughly 20 cents per kWh to charge it at home, and I get about 4 miles per kWh. That works out to 5 cents a mile. Jeepy, on the other hand, gets about 8 mpg in the city. That is about $3 per 8 miles, or about 37.5 cents a mile. So it is 87% less expensive to drive the electric Ford locally, and even less if I don’t have oil changes, spark plugs, oil filters, etc. to worry about. At some point the 9 year old battery will give out, but hopefully it will last me a few good years. The ride is comfortable and extremely quiet. So far I am enjoying driving it.

Professional looking install, @derekj! Looks like the wiring harness for the EVIC was already present? Or did you have to add that?
No wiring for the evic up there unfortunately, those wires are just for the dome lamp and the vanity mirrors in the sun visors. I have a chunk of the harness that the evic plugs into, so will just have to extend some wires down to the dlc connector.

While I did not notice any wheel drag, or smell any brake burning, with the new parking brake adjustment, when I finally got to town, I did notice that the left rear rotor was too hot to touch, while I could leave my knuckle (cuz it has less nerve endings then my finger tips) on all the other rotors for a few seconds before I had to remove it.

When I got home, I immediately used a laser/IR thermometer to determine that the LR rotor was at 195° while the others were all hovering around 165°, so Im gonna back off the adjusting star on the LR parking brake shoes 2 or 3 clicks.

And ALSO drive around with the IR thermometer for a few days. ;)

It's got to the point I'm designing a TC-mounted, electrical, parking brake assembly to be driven off a few relays and a microswitch on the factory brake lever.
I wish someone would have the sense to make those backing plates in a split design when they start rusting the rattle and make noise, and only way to replace them is to pull the axles, this jeep isn't the only one I came across like this, such a PIA, and YES< that parking brake is a PIA as well. Good Job on that.

195 honestly doesn't sound terrible. I think mine are hotter than that (granted, in the summer).

The actual phone mount is a 6/10 at best…. the arm joints are fiddly and weak. The “frame” is rock solid, so any good mount can be (will be) added. It was also only $30 CDN when I bought it last year.
