general gas mixing question

alright, i asked this in another thread but it got lost in the main topic so ill ask here.


in my old truck (302,carb 1970) i had about 8 gallons in it and i poured 1 gallon of Everclear in and ran it. thing ran super fine and seemed pretty strong. never skipped a beat.

this might not be good to do all the time, and very expensive...but just wondering what exactly does this accomplish other than what ive heard old men say and guys around town? just wondering..

I knew a guy who kept a gallon of that dyed light green in a windshield washer fluid jug and drank it straight up from the jug!
He always made it through D.U.I. road blocks and never had his booze taken away from him!

This guy wasn't a friend of mine. One summer when we were out every weekend 4X4'ing, this guy was doing the same roads trails 7 out of 10 times so we always seemed to see him around.
The only plus side of it was this guy's rig.
A fully camperized (with a VW Westphalia pop top tent) 1972 Ford Econo Line van sitting on a mid
1980's full size Ford Bronco 4X4 with a shoe horned 460 c.i.d.,36 inch tires and winch front and rear.
This thing was an awesome truck.

Well, you had 8 parts gasoline to 1 part ethanol, so not really much different than filling up from the 10% ethanol pump.

ahh, thats what i thought, just wasnt sure.

so would E85 be the same as 8 parts everclear 2 parts gas?

I hadn't heard of Everclear, but my brother-in-law has a bottle of "Diesel" brand, 190 proof grain alcohol in his cupboard.

Somehow I don't think a CRD would run too well on that!

They don't even sell Everclear anymore... I can't get it here in PA...

uhh, yes, they do here in Ga. you can still get the 190 proof. they even have the other companies version Golden Grain. again 190 proof.

Here's a twist!
Neighbor of mine back in the mid 1970's used to own a 1966 Barracuda...
Used to p iss in the gas tank with 8 of my other buddies every Friday night after downing a 26 of JD and a case of beer.
That thing started every time!
It's when we stopped p issing in the tank that the car died!
I kid you not. Never mind us, that Cuda was an alki!
Started even better when we drank Southern Comfort!
