I took it through a muddy parking area and a two foot snow plowed pile.

Turned 159200 miles on the Jeep today and in celebration the rear cv joint went to crap. Nice quiet Jeep then clunk clunk clunk clunk bang clunk then quiet again then back to noise. I limped it home. I guess I know what I am doing tomorrow rather than going to work. A little warning would have been nice so I could have ordered the part in advance. Fricking thing is expensive when your stuck dealing with the stealership or the local parts store.

Rear cv? on the front driveshaft? Just remove the front driveshaft until the new less expensive one comes in. Just stay in 2wd then.

I thought about that. Once it is out I don't need to cover anything up down there do I?

Thanks CzarKJ and Leeann....I think if I do this then I will get the parts and replace both ends of the driveshaft at the same time. Better safe than sorry and the thing will be out anyway.

Ehh the differential end is REALLY messy so honestly I would avoid. It's unlikely to fail compared to the other end which fails on pretty much all of these KJs.
