Glad you're wife is ok. My wife had the exact same thing happen to her, oddly enough it was by an old man as well. The damage looks similar and ended up costing about $6500.
a jack, a tire iron and a good set of wrenches. Can't recall what size bolts are on the calipers maybe 17mm or 18mm. An impact wrench would be ideal, if you have access to one, but it's not necessary.
Not sure if this is entirely accurate but it's from wikibooks:
"Among other things, ESP applies selective breaking to prevent wheel spin. This traction portion of the ESP has an effect similar to that of an LSD. So it doesn't interfere with off road driving, parts of the ESP system are disabled...
personally when buying any new vehicle with that many miles I would give it a full service right away. New plugs, air filter and PCV. Check brake pads, rotors and flush the brake lines. New ****** fluid. Have a shop check the battery or just throw in a new one. Differential fluid change and...

Wondering if they are any good and if they will even fit.

i'll check that but wouldn't i notice problems when in 4hi if it is the front driveshaft? I took her through some heavy snow earlier today and had no problems shifting into 4hi.
Just wondering if this is normal. When at a stop, if I accelerate and then quickly release the pedal I get a clunk that sounds and feels like it's coming from the rear axle. I have noticed it a few times during normal driving, always just after letting off the gas.
I can vouch for the front end crash test. The wife was doing 40-50kph in town and an old dude pulled out of a gas station and drove into her head on. No damage to the frame or engine, just the body lights and impact absorber. The wife walked away without a scratch.
sounds interesting but a good fuel injector cleaner would probably give the same results, found this off the Sta-Bil website FAQ:
Q: Is STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer safe for fuel injectors and catalytic converters?
A: STA-BIL is safe to use in both fuel injected and carbureted engines, and will not...
