Not really... The only thing keeping me out of the hospital is the fact that there are a lot of people sicker than myself who got there first.

(Which I am grateful for. Not that they are sick too, but that it could be worse.)

whelp, the khaki jeep is on its way back here on a wrecker.
owner says he was driving, made u-turn, and it lost all drive. engine works, can shift in and out of park, but it won't motivate.
either the transmission just puked, or something in the back of my head is saying it puked its fluid, like one of the external lines went.

oh that's not good.
was hoping it was something like a blown cooler line and it pissed everything out.
got no motivation forward, and makes some really EVIL rotational noises when in reverse.
something tells me, the transmission just shit itself internally.

so...
how much should I charge to pull the converter and transmission out of the parts jeep, to install into this customer's vehicle.

I'm thinking at least $500 to cover my time and fluids.

Engine starts up and runs fine. You can go from Park to drive and no evil noises, but no forward motivation. It won't move even if you put it in the four-wheel drive, so that tells me the transfer case isn't even receiving power. If you put it into reverse, you can hear very evil rotational engine speed dependent noises coming from inside. So that tells me that power from the engine is probably getting at least into and through the torque converter, and that the pump is moving fluid otherwise it wouldn't be able to shift at all. They said after it failed, they were able to once or twice get the vehicle too move just a bit if they arrived the engine up while in drive. But I wouldn't move substantially. So I'm thinking something internally in the transmission has failed.

I don't know if I'll pull it into the garage before I attempt to drop the transmission pan out of it. I might just do that in the driveway and see what kind of evil appears in there.

Oh, and I did check. The dipstick shows a full quantity of fluid. It didn't smell and there weren't any chunks attached to it.

oh yea. something's locked up in the transmission. i can feel it bump when putting it in D or R, but it won't go, and RPMs will stall out at about 2000rpm when I mash the pedal. in neutral it'll do the whole 2-step deal at about 4500rpm, but if I drop it into drive it immediately pulls revs down and doesn't go.
diffs aren't locked up; it rolls fine.
t-case isn't bound up; same reason.
scan tool shows me...

P0218 Transmission high temperature operation activated Stored
P0706 Transmission range sensor rationality Stored
P0732 Gear ratio error in 2nd Stored
P0734 Gear ratio error in 4th Stored
P0736 Gear ratio error in reverse Stored
P0740 Torque converter clutch (TCC) out of range Stored
P1790 Fault immediately after shift Stored

P0740 is a long standing code on this thing.

Don't sell yourself short - that would easily be a $900 plus parts, plus tax job at a shop. And that wouldn't include pulling the other trans out of the donor vehicle.
Yea, but...
i'm not a shop.
I sold the jeep to a friend/client, knowing the trans might need some help in the future (this soon wasn't expected though!)
I thought it was just a solenoid pack problem and I was going going to drop the pan/pack and try to clean it for free, even though I didn't think it was going to be a total fix.

grabbing the parts jeep and dragging it home tomorrow.
if you don't hear from me after that, the wife killed me :D
here's hoping the 06 65th anniv transmission is the same as the 06 renegade.
there's no chance they used a different transmission in front of the 231 vs 242 t-cases, is there?
