NOT the one I meant, but his guy pulls the headliner, but still excellent to watch even if you dont do it this way—

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

This guy removes his A pillars and fixes the BROKEN drain tube underneath using straws…STILL informative, but NOT the one I meant, NOR what I would do!!!

I'll still try to find the one I used, but likely striking out

OK, so... Been busy the last month or so. I was out of work for a week and a half in late November due to the whole shutdown thing. (yes it ended EARLY November, but the backlog got our funding)....

I want to add heated seats to the front. Have the kit here. Has anyone removed the upholstery on the front seats? I'm wondering if I need hog ring pliers or not before I yank the seat out...

I got sick of the DSPO's seat covers and ripped them out. Bought a set of covers (name escapes me... A well-known workwear brand, not Dickeys... Highly recommended on this site) and a MOLLE back piece I will install on each so I can have a IFAK, eyes/ears, and similar kit easily kept all together... Will install them while the seat is out.
I did this mod on my KK years ago. I did need hog ring pliers and hog rings. It was not an easy job but the payoff is great.

While investigating why I now have two wheel speed sensors out, I've discovered that a good portion of my passenger frame rail as decided exit the chat. I touched the rusty spot and a good foot of the rail fell out of the car.

I have an appointment at a local 4x4 shop to install "new" tires, do some rear suspension clean-up (new bump stops, spring isos, etc. to replace the trashed ones), and align it on Monday.

The tires are "new" because I bought 8 matching new BFG KO2's during an insane sale at a local tire shop several years ago. Five of them went on the Liberty and 3 went on my trailer. Now 4 on the Jeep are getting worn out, and it's time to swap them. The Jeep spare, trailer spare, and 2 trailer tires that have gone less than 10k miles are becoming the 4 road tires on the Jeep. I'll put the two best of the old tires back on the trailer.

Hopefully I can get some good years out of them. I don't see any cracking or dry rotting. How long will good tires last, time-wise, before they are done?

Depending how how much time they have spent in the sun tires are usually good for about 10 years give or take.

Any tire shop, and probably your local 4X4 shop, will tell you 6 - 10 years. Like derekj said, much depends on time in the sun. I just got new tires on my 2021 Ford Escape at Discount Tire. I asked him about the age of tires because in 2022 I put new Goodyears on my 07 Libby. They have about 1500 miles on them today. The tire guy told me that the rubber in the tires rots from the inside out. Undetectable without destroying the tire. Hope this helps you decide.

I started it and let it run for 45 minutes, or so. We’re going down to -30°F tonight, so the block heater and oil pan heater are plugged in. My work van, however, needed a jump today after lunch. We finally got it started and it ran from 1:30-5:30 when I got home.

Towed the broke ass Jeep into the garage using electric fiat.
Now I can start pulling the transmission out of it. And start installing the replacement.

Cheering you on with the transmission swap. Hoping everything goes according to plan. At least you can work inside a garage. Outdoors will be a little wintery this weekend. Maybe it will be quick enough that you can throw the plow on and make some money on Monday.

it's been in the air since the day after.
i'm 9.75 bolts away from having the trans out:
4 bell housing bolts
5.75 cross member bolts

already backed off and reinstalled the cross member ones, but one of them broke off the tip. interestingly it still grabs threads and makes like a bunch of rotations, so it's not a total failure.

I'll be in plow mode for the next 48 hours, so I probably won't get to it again until wednesday at the earliest.

My Jeep went into the shop this afternoon for rear suspension work and tires. I’ll be without my 4x4 for the storm. I made that appointment before the weather was forecast so oh well. I have food, water, batteries charged up (and a transfer switch for the furnace power) in case electricity goes down.

Unfortunately, this week got the bad news that the family 2012 KK ( wife's primary ) with 258K miles is pumping exhaust gases into the coolant. I have recently purchased brand new neoprene front seat covers, new tires recently, new windshield, new head unit with car play and all the goodies, new head lights and parking turn signals, new coils, plugs and wires. Sad as this is the newest Liberty we have ( also have a 05 and 06 ) and the first one to have catastrophic failure. Torn over to try to fix. A low of about $3K with me doing a low mileage used engine swap or $5K+ with a full remanufact but me still doing the labor. She drives 500+ miles a week mostly highway. This is a very difficult decision. For ME. She of course wants to move on. She has really liked this Jeep the most of all the vechicles she has driven. Thanks for reading. I HAVE considered parting it out myself. The ONLY other issue it has even had is the air box issue of no floor heat selection.

The transfer switch allows the furnace circuit to be powered either by the grid or by a generator/battery & inverter. Flipping the switch allows the furnace to get 120 volt power from an alternate source. We have a natural gas fired steam boiler and radiators, so the electricity needed is only for the unit's electronics, so it is not a lot. So far grid power has remained on, so we are lucky.

I hear ya! I have a 10 circuit transfer switch. It allows my generator to power eight 110V circuits and one 220V circuit. I have a 4500W generator that is nice and quiet. Here in Omaha we only received 1-2” of snow. We dodged a bullet with winter storm Fern!

Stay safe!

Yet another sad testament to the simple fact that

It was the perfect storm for night snowboarding, so I went snowboarding at a snow resort 200km from my house, but if I had been five minutes later getting on the toll highway on the way back, I would have run into a road closure.
On the north side of the mountain range, the only asphalt visible was a convenience store parking lot, where the snow was melting thanks to groundwater.

Replaced my ****** mount... Still got something thumping around underneath. Will have to rig a camera to troubleshoot further.
Did a lot of work on the wife's ZJ. Exhaust work - I now have only one non-welded joint in the entire exhaust. No more of this crap with the muffler torquing due to the tailpipe weight. So no muffler kicking the floorboard or tapping the suspension bolts...

After that we found a ticking sound from the rear axle - sounding just like a ratcheting locker... But I haven't installed one in this axle. Turns out it's the passenger side axle shaft.... So I've put $350 of axle shafts in the pig of an axle in the last 2 months. Need to expedite the D44a axle I have to install in its place.. I will have to change from a Disk/drum to a disk/disk MC, and while we are at it might as well do the brake booster as well. While we are at all this, doing an ABS delete, as the old 90s-tech ABS hasn't been working in years, and can't be repaired (module and the dealer computer to properly bleed it are no longer available). Fortunately, the wife knows how to drive, and my son has a high-end fitting tool so we can make our own lines.

Really tempted to do hydro boost brakes while we are at this.....

Haven’t started today’s work yet but the plan is to replace the idler pulley assy on my 03. Had to replace radiator and front grill support frame a week ago.
