I'm finally going to lift my Liberty (927/948, strut top plate, etc) and have a tire question.

I've decided to go with 265/70r16 Duratracs on some Moab rims I picked up. The Moabs have 245/75 MTR's on them, 4 of which are decent and 1 has never been used.

Should I spend the extra $200 for a 5th Duratrac or just keep the "new" 245/75 MTR as my spare? (I only drive around 10000km a year, so tire wear isn't a big issue)

Thanks.

I would just buy the 5th tire and do a 5 tire rotation, then you will b able to get maximum life out of your tires.

Depends on your funds. If you have the available funds, I would do a 5 tire rotation so that if you do destroy a tire with a nail or screw, you have one of similar tread depth to add at the time being. But if I were on a bit of a budget, I would have no qualms about the unmatching spare.

I went with 4 tires only. mostly because my 5th Moab is in bad shape (some butcher mangled one of the mounting holes when a lug nut wouldn't come free, before I bought them.)

Get a new 5th tire as the newest 16" MOAB wheel is 10 years old that means the tire is at least 10+ years old.

Tires do have a expiration date,IE 10 years and they are not safe to use anymore.

Having a 5th tire in the mix really helps with life. Last set of Terra Grapplers I had, I got about 30-35k from them. 4 tire rotation. Doing 5 tire on this set and I'm at 35k miles with a third or more of the tread left still.
