So yeah me and my wife are looking to sell or trade
the VW ,she will no longer be commuting 70+ miles a day
so we looked at the KK
Equipped like the old KJ will sticker near $35k WTF?
and a grand with a V6 is near $40k
did I miss something?
We paid $24k for the KJ
Even the "cheeper" version is $25k
Seeing as how I don't need off road ability in any way
Toyota or Nissan will get my $30k+ long before Chrysler
and the Highlander and Pathfinder both have more
engine and get better mpg and are bigger
What happened to Jeep being a at a lower price?
They are smaller and cost near the same

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Both the highlanders and pathfinders are well over $40k with any options.Repair costs are twice that of the KK's also, more so the highlander with it's timing belt.Nissan's have big issues with sensors and the main relay box, sadly the relays are not sold by themselfs and you must buy the whole box which costs $1200 and no aftermarket relays that will work either.I've replaced at least 30 of them in the last year.

They have modeled the KK away from offroad and more gizmo's added which cost more $$$,plus like everything else the prices go up,they never go down.

No they are not $40k
I have a quote from Nissan through the VPP program on
a Pathfinder SV 4wd for $29,649

Um...

My sister's Renegade MSRP'd at $25k in 2005.
My Renegade MSRP'd at $28k.

Difference of $3k.

But I actually have Skid Plates, and useful roof rails. I have side airbags. I have satellite radio. I have more cargo space. I have more interior lighting. My seats fold flat. Safer vehicle overall. The two vehicles are about as reliable, so that's a wash.

Here's the kicker:

ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION, THE TWO VEHICLES COST EXACTLY THE SAME.

So how is the KK more expensive?

It's actually cheaper?

Not really worried about the $11k in inflation
But nearly 50% is a bit much
The fact that Toyota and Nissan both are bigger
get better mpg and offer more power for the same
or less money something is wrong?
Then if we step up to the WK ,Grand
With a V8 and the same equipment as the big dogs
over at Toyota or Nissan you get the same thing
Jeep cost more and offers less
Oh and the 4wd Nissan comes off the lot with skids
and hooks standard and tows 6k#
and roof rails too...

Dealerships should be cutting good deals. I paid only 19700 for a 2012 sport. MSRP was 27k

Not locally
We are still "compact" enough that most people
drive probably 100 miles or less per week
or like us they drive 400+ and own less car
This is why a well equipped Corrola is $20k
So if you drive a lot they "take you behind the wood shed"
on a dinky little car
Or if you don't drive much the got you in the same way
We are lucky in the fact that I have a company truck
and make enough that my wife can work part time
and take care of the kids

Yeah I got lucky in that my Lib payment is the same as my 2009 Scion xB which I traded in for Lib, and bought the xB brand new also. I also had a FJ Cruiser for a little while and if I could do it over again I would have gotten the Lib because it comes with more options and the interior is much more quiet. I drove an loaner Hybrid Highlander once and liked that but thats prolly the only other Toyota I'd get if it had to be an SUV. Offroad wise the Jeep is going to have it but MPG never, until they put the Pentastar in it like the Wrangler.

Looking at base models then.On the website the SV starts at $35k for 4wd,the high end V6 model starts at $42k and the V8 model starts at $43k.

If you pay MSRP your a idiot. If they have the KK you want for $35k you could get it for less then $28k easily.

on here
Adds in todays paper. All Jeeps here are 4x4. No one wants a 2wd jeep here. There was more but I couldn't find a KK Ltd listed.

2012 KK 4x4 Sport......msrp $25,770
Dealer discount ....................2,980
Rebate.................................3,000
$19,790

2012 Grand Larado 4x4.........$37,895 msrp
Dealer discount......................3,000
$34,895

2012 KK Sport 4x4.................$26,090msrp
Dealer discount........................2,680
Rebate....................................3,000
$20,410

Military Vets get another $500 off the above numbers.

2 different large dealers downstate from me. Adds didn't give specs and there were only 2 sports listed. Not the Limited loaded model. Point is, good to find a dealer that is dealing better numbers.

If you wanted to lease one of the above there was lease incentives on top of the numbers above for another $2-3,000 off the above prices. (Personally, I wouldn't lease a vehicle unless I had a business to write it off no matter how good the prices were).

Might even be able to find better numbers on the net.

Just trying to get some of my investment back
remember the "bail out"?
This may be why?
I just figured that after all the money they got
the products would be better

Honestly they are better than Toyota atleast, dont know about nissan. For the money the only vehicles that Toyota sales that match a Jeep in offroad capability and size are the 4Runners and FJs. If you are looking for a family SUV go Toyota but if you want the go anywhere capability go Jeep. Like I said before my Liberty stock is better than my FJ was because of the included creature comforts not in the FJ that I had to add myself. Yes the engines are more fuel efficient but that just because the Liberty enginge is from 2002 and hasnt changed. Liberty is getting the new pentastar enigine in 2014 if you wanna wait.

Gee uh, yeah, that. The products *are* better, they *do* get better gas mileage and have you not seen Chrysler's recent interiors yet? The KK is a holdover, new one coming soon.

It takes longer than 3 years to engineer and produce a vehicle. Just producing the vehicle is mind boggling.

A KK gets better mpg than a Highlander?
Don't for get I drove a KJ for 7 years and if I got
22 I was doing good
We drove the Highlander and the real time mpg
according to the car was 27 and that was the
stronger V6
The pathfinder was getting 24
and the 22 was according to the computer in the KJ
Don't try to tell me they improved the KK milage by
5 mpg and changed nothing but the body

As far as what it takes to design ,build or what ever
a car truck or SUV I don't care
I am a consumer and will buy based on #1 my test drive
#2 other ratings
So far the Highlander is by far better

The highlander is a very nice vehicle but this discussion should really be set on what the goals are for the OP. Like I said before I'd take my Lib over a Higlander anyday because each one stock the Jeep is better offroad. Toyotas are more family oriented vehicleswith decent options and standard equipment but you def have to pay for what you are getting.

You are putting words in my mouth. NOWHERE in my post did I say that a KK got better MPG than a Pathfinder. I said their (meaning Chrysler and GM's) products are better and do get better mileage. I did not use ANY comparisons.

So I will direct you back to post #12...

Buy a Toyota or Nissan and quit whining.

Our 2004 sold new for $30920.00
When we bought it five years and three and a half months ago we paid $14400.00
Back then we regularly got 26-27 mpg.
Now we still get 22-23 mpg highway...
