Hi All

Just need some thoughts on what may be causing a knocking sound under my KJ.

I am hearing a knocking sound particularly at speeds 60kph + and can feel the knocks through the footwell. It happens mostly when I am accelerating and slacks off when no gas is being applied. It is not a rythmic knocking, but more of a random (yet constant) knocking. The knocking is heard when travelling in a straight line.

I do have a stiffer suspension on the jeep so do feel the bumps in the road more than a standard kj would, but this knocking occurs even on a perfectly flat and smooth road and it seems to slowly be getting worse.

Any thoughts? Propshaft issue perhaps?

If you don't believe its completely rotational ie all the time, I'm guessing u joint on rear drive shaft. Mine would vib horrible under acceleration and decel. Would remain a little wobbly under cruise. Happened at 80000 km.

go for a drive and check the u joints to see if they are hot / warm. Should be ice cold. Plus its a cheap fix if it isn't but will eliminate it off the list.

Yes, our KJ too has developed a rather strange knock while driving.
I for the life of me figure what the heck it is.
Being the gimp that I am is making it difficult for me to crawl underneath
and do the trouble shooting to find out what's causing the clunk.
The front drive shaft is brand new as are the U joints. I guess it could be
possible that the "new" front U joint is kaput.
Jen's been under the Jeep but like she says, she's not entirely sure what to look for.

Any guesses as to what area to look at?
Then I can get Jen to be my eyes under the Jeep.

Thanks
Ry'

Well, I crippled myself somewhat today crawling under our Rig and found the the problem to our wretched "clunk".
Turns out the bushings in the swaybar end links are completely worn out.
