I have an 05 liberty renegade and I want to program new keys to it. But I only have one key.

Does anyone know a way to program a new key without going to a dealer and paying the 100 to 200 dollars for a new one? I can get the key cut no problem.

Is there some sort of programmer I can buy to do it myself? Or a method just using a second key?

    Thanks!

Some locksmiths might be able to do it, you might be able to find a place that cuts keys to make a clone but those aren't cheap either

Try an auto locksmith for another key or have a programmable blank ready.
I phoned locally and they quoted me $100 for key with programming.

just went through this with the wife's sebring. only had 1 key.
$143 for 2 more keys cut and programmed, and I got a master "gold" key to go with the deal.
note: I never have a car with only 2 coded keys, for this exact reason.

Alright thanks. Was hoping for a cheaper option but this seems to be the only way

Just taped? Not worried about it falling off? Tape edge lifting, getting dirt underneath it, peeling some more til it falls off?

With the split ring hole in the key, you could just run a rubber coated cable tether to the keyring (key attached, obviously), and tether the whole thing to any number of holes in the frame/body/UCA, just keep it short so it doesn't interfere with anything, then tape it to the body or something to prevent dangling.

Been working fine as it is for years now...serious amount of duct tape in use there and key with separate fob is sealed in plastic.

I occasionally remove the key and separate fob and replace them with the other set so that each key can get worn down the same amount. What amazes me that this Jeep is 17 years old now and the original batteries in the separate fobs still work fine!;)
