Has anyone done a front free wheel hub modification?

Yes, I thought about that:laughing1:
Still, I have the parts I need from the SsangYong Korando/Musso to play and see!
Another option can also be from the SsangYong Kyron.
Hoping I gave you some ideas.

I looked into free-wheel hub parts for a while.

Ford Explorer wheel-ends have the same bolt pattern, and cheap/easy to acquire around here. But incompatible is just about every other aspect. Would require major machine work, and custom hybrid ujoint/CV axle shafts to make it work.

There may be better options with the Aisin hub setups used on Japanese makes. Many of those used CV half shafts. However, I've only seen them with the larger 5x5.5"or 6x5.5" wheel bolt patterns.

I've ditched the idea myself. Timken wheel bearings last a good long time for how we currently use the Jeep.

For the very small amount of gain in mileage ( if any at all ) or wear on front items it would cost way more than what you would ever get back

I locked the hubs on my 98 Ranger last summer, since the POS pulse vacuum hubs were toast. I drive it quite a bit and had absolutely no change in MPG in it. 4WD works great and really noticed no difference in any aspect of driveability. So I doubt the KJ would be much different.
