Couple quick questions -- replacing driver's front CV axle

I went with the FSM. I've never heard of torquing the KJ hub nut to 175, I think that's the figure for the ZJ. Maybe people doing it on the KJ have done the SFA swap?

Couple quick questions -- replacing driver's front CV axle

With a picklefork, you're running a risk of damaging the joint boot. I'd recommend using a proper balljoint separator. I have the OTC front end set, and I use the larger Pitman arm puller to pop all the front balljoints on my KJ. Only takes a few cranks on the screw and it's done: I always...

    Anyone replaced their brake booster?

I've confirmed my hissing brake problem as the booster. I've looked up the FSM replacement procedure and it looks straightforward enough, but actually looking at the booster, it's pretty cramped in its corner. Has anyone changed one? Any traps for the unwary?

    Brake pedal hissing when pressed

I'm getting a hissing sound when I press the brake pedal. Just in the last week, we've noticed that we need to put more pressure on the pedal about halfway through a stop. I guess this probably points to the brake booster? I've tried the FSM test for the booster - engine off, pump the pedal...

Oil light comes on, Dissapears after restart

The two aren't necessarily linked, no. It's not uncommon for Liberty oil pressure sensors to go bad and set off the pressure light. If you Google it, you'll find lots of examples where replacing the sensor fixed the problem, in fact I don't think I've seen any for the Liberty where the problem...

Torqued UCA bolts with Jeep in the air

I've been running my KJ with a new passenger-side UCA and LCA for about 2 weeks now, and I torqued the bolts when the Jeep was still in the air (I only torqued the front bolt, the rear one I just snugged up as much as I could). Since I now know that you shouldn't torque the bolts until the...

    Steering intermediate shaft?

I'm getting a pop in the steering, but only when just starting to move after the Jeep's been sitting a while. The steering is nice and tight otherwise, especially since I replaced my lower balljoints. Looking at the steering shaft, there's a worn rubber bushing where the shaft angles to the left...

Any pointers on changing the motor mounts?

I'm hearing that replacing the 3.7L motor mounts is a PITA, even though the FSM makes it seem very straightforward. Does anyone have any experience of changing the mounts with the engine in the engine bay? The driver's side mount is supposed to be the worst to do.

What did you do to your jeep today?

New pads and rotors, and with the wheels off I discovered just how many suspension components I need to replace...

Front brake caliper pin-and-boot kit discontinued by Mopar?

The Mopar front caliper pin-and-boot kit for the '05 KJ is listed in the 2005 parts catalog as 05019987AA, but it seems to have been discontinued. Can anyone confirm this? And if I have to go aftermarket, can anyone recommend a kit that definitely fits? Having done some Googling, it seems...

Why are the front LCAs so expensive compared to the uppers?

Even aftermarket there's a huge price difference between upper and lower. What's so special about the LCAs?

Getting the "random misfire" code, but driving is smooth and no CEL

I was getting the CEL along with the codes for random misfire, cylinder 2 misfire and insufficient ionisation in cylinder 5. I decided to replace all the plugs and coils - all but coil #1 were the 2005 factory originals. The KJ now has noticeably more zip when pulling away from stationary. I...

    HOW TO: Spark Plug Change

FWIW, I just put in some Mopar plugs. Rather than give a torque spec, the diagram on the box indicated that the plugs should be screwed in finger-tight, then given a half- to two-thirds turn with the ratchet.

Safe to jack front end from the skid plate?

I've had my ZJ up on jackstands many times, but never my KJ. That's all about to change :) Just wanted to know recommendations for where to jack the front end. I've done some Googling and many people say they do it on the front control arms, but the FSM specifically says *not* to jack on a...

Replacing motor mounts - do you need an engine crane?

It's just not practical for me. I do all my wrenching in the parking lot of my apartment building, I have nowhere secure to store a crane and there are no rental places near me anyway.

Replacing motor mounts - do you need an engine crane?

I'm sure I read somewhere that replacing the motor mounts in the 3.7L requires supporting the engine from above, you can't use a jack from below. Is this correct? If so, it's not a DIY job for me :(

Any way to remove slack in throttle cable?

There's a fair amount of slack in my throttle cable where it meets the throttle body. Is there any way to tighten it up? The throttle response has been off for a while, so I was wondering if that might be the cause.

Anyone one have problems with 3.7 Idle. Seems to be a little ruff like a misfire but

The idle on my 2005 KJ feels a little rough. The rev counter needle is rock-solid where it should be, but you can feel the roughness through the seat. I'll be pulling the IAC to clean it soon, but I'm also wondering if it might be the engine mounts, which the dealership only replaced 4 years ago.

I have to ask... why HOAT and not reg. antifreeze

Where I live, the only source of HOAT coolant is the dealership. $50 a bottle. Ouch.

Where is the sensor that tells the Jeep that you haven't buckled your seatbelt?

Occasionally, the warning lights for the airbag and seatbelt will come on while driving. I've read that this can be caused by a fault in the sensor that detects whether your seatbelt is buckled or not. Can anyone tell me where this sensor is? Logically it has to be in the belt receiver, doesn't...
