Has anyone heard of such a thing??

I think it would be sick if someone dropped a 350 or something in one, and solid axle'd the front end, it would be a hog! Modifications galore though...

If there's a link to anything like that share it with me please!

Just brainstormin haha.

The best bet for a V-8 swap in a Kj is the 4.7 V-8 since it shares the same platform as the 3.7 V-6.If you have the 42RLE ****** or any of the manual trannies you'd want to swap that as well since they will not like the extra torque, the KJ's with the 45RFE will be fine. The 4.7 V-8 will fit with a custom radiator and a ultra slim electric fan,you will need the PCM wiring harness(and PCM) from a V-8 equipted Grand or Durango to make the swap work, all the accessories will bolt up to the 4.7 V-8 from the 3.7 V-6.

Putting in a V-8 like the SBC is still doable but the whole drivetrain would need to be swapped since the trans and stuff will not bolt to the SBC,as well as all of the OEM accessories(alternator,A/C,and P/S pump). You would also lose everything that the BCM and PCM controls since they will not work as a stand alone system, that includes the OEM A/C,power window, power locks, all guages, and such.

Do a search for 4.7L PowerTech V8 Engine Swap at Wiki because the URL is correct, but doesn't work.
Most of that info is incorrect when I found that page.

Food for thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wikipedia is about only 10% turth since anyone can post info and/or change info there, take any info there with a grain of salt(just one because anymore your wasting your money).

I have been thinking about this very swap for when the V6 gives up the ghost!

If I was to do a swap in a KJ, I'd probably consider a GM3800 Series II. I know that is blasphemy, but I think in some ways it'd require less work than the 4.7L swap. Those are VERY dependable pushrod engines with a nice-sized aftermarket (well, better than the 3.7 anyway!).

Standalone tuners can be purchased for cheap that would allow you to tweak the PCM to your heart's desire.

I know that a 3.8 to a Sammy has been done more than once
I also wheel with a guy who got a very low milage 4.3 from a Blazer and put it in his TJ ,pulled a 4 ****** out
this thing is a beast now ,60's and all, and from what I hear the 4.3 pound for pound is stronger than a small V8 and much stronger than the I6 in TJ's
I dont know 1 way or the other but the 4.3 is know to be a mule

4.3L is a bulletproof engine - from what I understand, it's a 350 less two cylinders.

I miss my 3800 - that thing was a darn good engine, and I have seen first hand what can be done relatively easy. Unfortunately, pushrod engines are soon to be a thing of the past. 3.7L may be a good engine, but I still feel it doesn't hold a candle to the series II.

The 3800 doesn't seem to be used in 4x4 applications much, but it's a common swap for most cars. Fieros scream with an L67 (supercharged GTP engine), and many Luminas and Monte Carlos have had that swap. The S/C is sick, but throw a turbo on it and it's all over. Heck, there's even a stroker kit available for them.

And a Hemi is better than both of them.

The 3.7 doesnt have pushrods.. Not sure if you were saying it does or just saying it isnt as good as series II.

ohh, and that minivan engine they use in the JK's is a push rod engine.. Not sure what they were thinking there..

Says you ;) I disagree :p

Understood - in fact, the only reason I was OK with the 3.7 was that I jumped on here before I bought it and was told it has a timing chain, not a belt. I am still an old-school pushrod guy.

You do relize that that swap would cost over 3 times as much as swapping to a 4.7?

Good luck finging a 4wd ****** to bolt up to that 3.8 to be able to use in the KJ,and the fact anything run by the BCM would not funtion without the OEM(or Chrysler PCM) hooked up and able to comunicate with the OEM BCM.

I don't know that saying it'd cost 3x's as much is entirely accurate. I think it'd have it's difficulties, which you mentioned, but the 4.7 swap has plenty of it's own as well.

No matter what, I think an engine swap would be entirely too costly and not worth it.

Atrus...like what?

with the 3800Series II, you need new engine mounts, a new transmission, which will require a different transfer case, which will require different driveshafts, completely different wiring harness/ECM/TCM...

You're telling me that aside from swapping out the fan/radiator, the 4.7L will bolt right in to the same engine mounts? Understandably, it'd bolt to the transmission.

Additionally, I am thinking in terms of my 2007 - therefore, from what TJKJ has said, my trans wouldn't handle the 4.7 anyway, so I'd have to work in a 45RFE swap as well.

If everything will bolt up (and as mentioned, the fan/radiator will need to be changed around for clearance) then I'll retract my previous statement.

Hell, I'll retract everything I have said on this thread, I'm not saying it's a cakewalk either way. My thought on it was that either one is a pain in the **** and a ton of work, and each would come with it's own challenges.

Forget everything I have said on this thread, without an act of god nothing but a 4.7 will fit in a KJ. ;)

BUT: the 3800 is based on the 231 which was based on the 225 which...

...was a factory jeep motor from the mid-60's through '71 after Buick sold the rights to Kaiser. AMC sold the rights to that engine back to GM when they bought jeep for Kaiser.
