Okay I just did that this morning in about 20 minutes without coffee.

The clutch and freewheel definitely in the cause. The bearing decided it no longer wanted to do bearing things, and there are balls physically missing. If that allowed the hub the belt rides on to shift enough to make contact with the magnetic coil, which smoked the ever living hell out of it. Currently can't get the coil off, but I think there might be a snap ring buried somewhere in there underneath all the melted plastic. That's a problem for future sota. :)

For now, I can at least complete the first part of my trip without having something come completely apart at speed.
There is definitely a snap ring under there. If you put a puller on it and crank it without removing said snap ring, you will destroy the compressor. Ask me how I know…

Reminds me of when our ac cratered three days into our honeymoon. We did okay up in the mountains, but returning to Texas was a drag.

Found the elusive unicorn, 2003 jeep liberty in the yard with renegade setup. Pulled all but the steps as the forklift did a number on them and i plan to make my own. Also found a jeep in the yard with the 45rfe transfer skid and pulled it as my 02 has the 45rfe.

Got a link to those wheels?
There are several sources for the wheels such as Method's website, 4WD Parts, trailbuilt.com and others can order them. They are pricey at $356/wheel. They only offer one style in matte black or bronze (out of stock at the moment). I am probably going to get the Falkin Wildpeak A/T4W tires in 235/75-17 to keep from rubbing with a 3 inch lift. I currently run the K02 in 235/85-16 and get rubbing when turning tightly. I will loose about 1/2 inch in ground clearance.

What did the part number for that belt end up being, sorry if I missed what you actually bought. I want to make a note and keep it in my manual/book, as a just in case. I may end up grabbing one to have on hand. My AC (knock on wood) is so far so good, but I tend to make the comment to others, when I run the AC or defrost as it engages, it's almost like running another pair of cylinders on my motor so to speak as my fuel economy drops drastically. but if you need it you need it and lately it's been needed alot.

Nothing I have specifically done to the jeep yet, but I have started receiving parts. The last of them will arrive today (compressor, liquid line, and accumulator) along with the flush fluid I'll be using on the evaporator. My son and I both feel the accumulator is the least likely of the parts to have a leak. I will be flushing and back flushing it with the flush kit, and hoping for the best. Otherwise that's a whole other day of work, and thus about $400 more in labor I will be paying him to install an $80 part.

Wildfire smoke is kicking our butts here today.

I used the Jeep today to pull my trailer to get its PA state inspection for 2026-27. It passed, so we are ready for another year of camping. (Photo not taken today, as it is much hazier outside.)

We’re getting the MN boundary waters smoke. We’re in Duluth for my wife’s birthday. I paid extra for a room overlooking Lake Superior. Here’s the view. There’s a whole harbor and another section of town down there.

On the jeep front, I put gas in it yesterday.

We are getting smoked out here in the Cleveland area as well.
I'm over in Port Clinton right now myself. Yeah, it's pretty awful. It wasn't too bad for most of the day, but then about 3 hours ago my allergy started kicking in, and now I'm sitting in the Hut with the AC running on high and about to take my third allergy pill of the day.

Received all the parts for the ac work yesterday, and examined it with my son so there's no surprises. Still got a week and a day to get any issues fixed. All was well. But I have to wait til next week to get them installed... 110 with the heat index today. The 25th can't come soon enough...

Got off work early today as the wife reported the fridge not cooling. Turns out to have been exactly what I told her about.. Don't put so much shit in the freezer, and throw those ******* plastic bags in the ******* trash..
Got home, removed the back panel of the freezer section after cross loading everything into coolers. Sure enough, plastic bag material and a sheet of ice completely covering the evap core. I thought it was plastic til I did some research on YouTube. Told her everything needed to come out of the fridge as well (throwing away mayo, beverages that had been opened, and the like, but saving mustard, hot sauces, anything pickled/containing vinegar as a main ingredient). Ran across town and bought two more Igloo coolers and 90 pounds of ice. Spent 125 on coolers and ice but saved easily 300 bucks of food. We needed the coolers for hurricane preps anyway.
Tweaked out my knee somewhere today, soaking it now while the wife scrubs the last little bit of the fridge while we have it to bits. When she's done I'll put the freezer section back together and then put it back in service and make sure it works before loading it back up. Needless to say I have explained to the wife and kid how the thing works so hopefully they will listen and not shove it so full.... And keep the damn plastic bags out of it..
