Okay I just did that this morning in about 20 minutes without coffee.

The clutch and freewheel definitely in the cause. The bearing decided it no longer wanted to do bearing things, and there are balls physically missing. If that allowed the hub the belt rides on to shift enough to make contact with the magnetic coil, which smoked the ever living hell out of it. Currently can't get the coil off, but I think there might be a snap ring buried somewhere in there underneath all the melted plastic. That's a problem for future sota. :)

For now, I can at least complete the first part of my trip without having something come completely apart at speed.
There is definitely a snap ring under there. If you put a puller on it and crank it without removing said snap ring, you will destroy the compressor. Ask me how I know…
