Does anybody know how much it would cost to do a complete paint job on a 2003 KJ? I know it varies by color and such, but I'm just looking for ballpark estimates

Lot depends on the condition of the current paint, condition of the body, dings, dents, rust
If you want a good job with fenders / doors/ flares etc taken off and done right etc
Hard to say without seeing it and exactly what you want.
1,000 dollar full paint job was a long time ago
a back yard hit it a lick and call it good maybe

Call around and get some quotes. I wanted to do my Titan in a bright blue and was repeatedly quoted $10K to $15K+. And that's with my truck being undamaged with no rust or anything. I did get quoted $2500 for a full 3M vinyl wrap so am still thinking about it.

If the paint is just old and faded, you may be able to have it detailed by a pro shop, where they could potentially bring it back to a nice shine and get rid of a lot of smaller scratches.

Earl Schreibe will do it for $100.00. Mask anything you want to see through. Used to see his cars around DC with the painted badges.
Or, if you feel adventurous, buy a rotary buffer and some good maguires pro product and have yourself some fun! A full rotary buffer can do some damage with a heavy cut polish, an occelating type would be fine too and less possible to cut into the paint.

From your neck of the woods originally so the cost back there would be between $3000-$10,000 depending on color.A complete color change would be on the higher end.
When I re-painted mine it would have retailed at $9000 since it was a complete color change but not a full paint job(lower 1/3rd and roof bedlined) but I had no labor and the paint was at cost so I actually spent $3000.

I painted my old Tracker. It didn't look great, but it didn't look bad, either. My goal at the time was just to have something on there to prevent rust. It actually turned out somewhat better than that. I only spent a few hundred dollars for paint. (And many hours of labor...)

There is also the Plasti-Dip option which many of the youngands are doing now-a-days. If you muck it up you just peel it off and try again. I imagine it would cost a few hundred for the spray cans to do an entire truck.

Maybe if you drive a pavement princess that is parked indoors. A friend of mine had his Lancer dipped. It looks good but was around $1200 CAD for everything to be done professionally. Plus it is too weak for me. I hear that stuff like Windex or brake cleaner can wipe off the plasti-dip. I personally would go for a more permanent option. Might be worth doing a DIY though for the cost.

Guys you can get a full kit with sprayer and gallons of plasti-dip formulated for spraying from dipyourcar.com a full kit for a larger car is still under $500 with standard colors. You can also do pearls and other pigments and such as well. They have a well stocked youtube channel with tons of instructional videos and what not as well. You don't use the rattle cans to do a whole care

Also the dipyourcar stuff has been on cars for 2-3 years before, I think one of his shop cars has had a dip job for over 3 years now and still looks very good. They also have a new clearcoat system (although it's sort of a pro level job to do it) that is super glossy like a regular paint jobs clear coat.

Ok, just checked and they upgraded their sprayer to a newer one, so now the kits are a bit more expensive. Although that sprayer is much nicer than the old one they offered. Still under a grand and you have a sprayer you can use for other things as well I'm sure.
But its still plastidipped and still doesn't look that good, why waste 500 plus bucks ?
I mean flares , OK , wheels I guess OK but a whole cra looks like crap IMO when fully plastidipped, plus its an old thing now. Time to move on, its like the stupid angry eyes time for a new fad :happy175:

There is absolutely no denying though that testing a color with plasti dip is very beneficial. You can see if you like, if you do get it permanent, if you dont just remove it
You can also photoshop for zero dollars
Don't waste your time doing the whole jeep. Grille bumpers flares and wheels are ok but you'll be wasting money for the whole jeep. Why not save up 1-2,000$ and get it done right the first time
