Only one skid was missing from my kJ so...
All the way from Warren MI to dealer, my skid plate arrived today.
Much more beefy than expected, with boxed rails, and weighing in at 19lbs, this is a middle weight contender.
I was surprised how heavy it was to pick up.

It joins the transfer case skid and then new nutserts provided go in rear of plate
For $50 this is a great value investment for adding protection for ****** pan.

s'about time Tim. The OE skid isn't the greatest but it works. I know from the scars on the skid that mine has saved my trans pan on several occasions. If you do find yourself in mud, take the time afterwards to remove the skid and wash out the muck. I've had mud packed inbetween the skid and the exhaust pipe/trans so bad that it caused some worriesome vibrations.

It sounds like you also have the OEM Ian. Most dont want to spend the big bucks on the skidrow one.
Ya the reason I got mine, knowing my luck, the first time I really take it off road once lifted, I would get a hole in the ****** pan, so this is planning ahead!
Thanks for the mud pack advice. Will install it with the lift...soon../Spring time.
Probably going to throw a few more coats of paint on it first, or even dry coat it at the undercoating shop or bedline?

Tim, I do have the OEM skid. Don't get me wrong, it's plenty strong and works just fine. Don't waste money on paint or bedlining. You'll find yourself repainting it after every offroad trip. I use some cheap a$$ed Krylon or Tremclad black. Nothing special.

Ya I had a feeling you would say when you remove it paint it.
I am glad to hear that you are happy with it's strength.
I just opened the packaging. The X on photo must be the install tool. Any hints on that, never installed new nutserts before.

and I thought it went front to the rear, not sideways as some of the online instructions showed. Here is the correct instruction for an 04.

Transfer case skid?

Good investment, $50 for ****** plate - I am missing the other $50 piece for the transfer case - you guys think it's worth it? (Seems like less of a value if we go by $ / inch of steel heheh)

(Part 82210937 I think?)

Sure it's worth it. The tcase is aluminum and hangs down some. Easy to smack a rock or stump when backing up. $50 is cheap peice of mind.

Even on the road, one Member without skids in forum had the unfortunate oopsie of running over a rim/tire that came off ahead of him.
That took out oil pan and dented ****** too, both leaking.
Imagine now if you go off road...ya skids are mandatory, unless you like the occasional oopsie in the middle of no where.

xfer case skid

Okay! Sold me. Have to go pick up isos at the dealers anyways next couple weeks... but I had the skid part # wrong.

82209455 lists transfer case skid for 05-07 and instructions have the nutzerts.

Looks like the one for 08-09 has no nutzerts - I guess they drilled and tapped the later models to avoid the "spinning to nowhere" nutzert issues ? ... will take a look under the jeep and see what the left frame rail looks like to get everything in.

(Man this winter KJ project is starting to add up $ hehe) Hopefully it'll all be worth it!

82209026 is what is showing on the last install instructions for the front transfer case skid.
The Transmission skid also for 02-04 is 82210003, which came with 2 additional nutzerts.
Better check and see if there is even stock on the transfer case skid.
"Jeep's" aren't made, they are built !! With lots of effort and cash by the wheelbarrow full.

Paint & Clear Coating Skid

I decided to give the new skid 2 coats of Tremclad, dry overnight.
Give 3 more days of drying time to really cure, then apply spray Clear Coat.
This will give an excellent hard finish, and make the mud fly right off.
Future cleaning will be a breeze after this treatment!:waytogo:

Ahhhhh... Yes, good to be remembered. Skids are mandatory to have. After my mishap (6th Tire) I have a full set of Skid Row's.

Pretty skids :)

Don't let 'em razz ya TC. I did the same to my engine and ****** skids this fall. Ground, sanded, two coats of high heat gloss black engine enamel baked in the oven.

(If you wanna piss off your wife or gf please cook car parts in the oven... I buy one can of oven cleaner for each can of paint lol :happy175: )

Maybe next time we go yellow and blue to match the nice new Bilsteins? :smokin:

Got any photos of your skid Rows during your handy work?
Normally walking into a home with something baking in the oven smells good!
Did your food have left over remnants of um yummy skid plating?
Right now my place smells like clear coat!
Got fresh air blowing in, all exhaust fans going, and it still smells like Fn:favorites68: in here.
Last jeep parts I baked were the lower control arm bushings that got filled in with urethane, good thing it was an old oven.
I would rather have this ****** skid painted right now while it's still new.
Damn it's getting shiny....
