Wining noise in forward at any speed. New to me 2003 KJ 171k. It's not the tires. Sound in front end. Not sure if it's transfer case?

It could be a number of things
Does it do it all the time
does it make any noise sitting still in park
does it change sound at when speeding up or slowing down
is there a certain RPM range that it does it
are you sure its not the tires, ( have you rotated them )
If its the same exact noise at all rpms, all speeds, then that changes some things
If it would be the transfer case it would generally change when speeding up or slowing down, same as anything else in the drive line

Two encounters with a such a noise... both times it was the rear pinion bearings. The 2nd time I was 98% sure it was in the tcase, but it wasn't.

For some of these tricky noises to troubleshoot, I like to prop the Jeep up on axle stands and drive it. Take out either the front or rear driveshaft to see what changes.
