I am looking to make an offer on a 03 liberty 3.7l 2wheel drive. The motor is blown but I can replace it myself. What would be a good price to pay for it.

What caused the engine to go? That would be my main concern. You might end up replacing more than just an engine if there is more wrong.

The head gasket blew causing the #6 piston to pre detonate cracking the piston and the piece that came off scared the wall and melted to the head

As a rough guess (I'm no expert), I'd take Blue Book and subtract the cost of a replacement engine and installation. Then I'd knock some more off of that to allow for all the other stuff you might well run into. (And you probably will.) Then I'd subtract a little more to allow for some negotiating room.

Like I said, I'm not a pro at this. You'll probably get better advice if you wait until some other people come along and comment. :icon_wink:

Up here four wheel drives with blown motors can be had for 1200-1500 and in great condition
With 2 wheel drive and blown motor 800-1000 tops
With the scratches I see the way the interior looks maybe 500-750

I definable wouldn't pay over $1000. You can always offer $600 and see how it goes. I think used engines go for $500? Not too sure though.
