So i had the issue with no start no click and discovered a piece that chipped off on the pin. Couldn't find the piece but still messed with the switch and was able to turn on the engine with a flat head and fired right up. I will need a new actuator i ordered (Dorman brand) . As you can see in the pics that lil edge was chipped. Couldn't believe it. I hope this solves the issue . Hope this helps as i was thinking it could have been the starter at first.

Had this issue with my '05 a few years ago. After spending money to get it towed home, later found a video on how to jump start them using one wire at the fuse box. Now I always carry a piece of wire with me just in case. You can Google videos of "how to".

Tried to start mine today and nothing happened. It's exactly like your picture.

Thanks for this post.

I just had this issue too with my original owner 2005 Jeep Liberty. Luckily, it was less than 5 miles from home, during the day, in mild weather, and I have other vehicles.... It would have been awful 1000 miles from home, 10 miles from a dirt road, 20 miles from a range station and 50 miles from a town (not even a city).

I suppose a few times over the last 20 years, it didn't start until I moved the shifter lever slightly. It also has the intermittent separate crank but no start when hot issue.

This time, the key turned freely, the electrical power came on, but it didn't even try to start.

I had it towed home and found out about the ignition actuator pin failure symptoms which matched completely.

After removing the actuator, I saw the broken metal sleeve. After 20 years, 7000 days, maybe 50000 starts, the metal inside broke for me too.

I got Got the Dorman part, replaced it with only a few issues on the hollow metal pin inside going a little too far and sticking in the white plastic half circle cutout on the end. After adjusting that and putting it in the jeep, it works again.

Much cheaper than a mechanic.

It was also good to learn about the possibility of jumping the starter relay to start it of this happens again.
