I recall reading on here about some people having issues with the plug melting when upgrading to 9005 bulbs in their fog lights. Of course like all things, I can't seem to find that thread now. :disgust:

My question, if people are having issues with plugs. Has anyone tried a "heat resistant" connector like this one?

wont the stock wiring after that plug still get hot and potentially melt? you are just moving the problem further down the line, not eliminating it.

i would say you need to upgrade all the wiring to prevent melting/use high output lights.

It's not the extra 1-2 amp draw that is the issue. The issue is a higher output light in a housning not designed for it.Even if you upgrade to 10g wire the efeects would be the same since it's the fog lamp housing that's causing the issues.

So I assume one of these heat resistant plugs would be the answer? By moving the stock factory connector further away from the heat and eliminating the problem.

Has anyone actually had a plug melt on them yet?

Heat in the lighting fixture is the problem.

So, from all this I gather this is the solution:

http://www.automotivelightstore.com/9005ledbulbspair.aspx

I've been running 9005 silverstars for a month but haven't checked on them yet. I will be and if I see anything I'll be looking for led. This website shows how much cooler they run too. There are cheaper ones around too if you look, but I don't know about the quality of some of them.

Has anyone any experience with these?

If going LED do not use a LED bulb in the OE housing, the light will suck.Replace the whole housing with a deticated LED light.

Now this kit may work for a '02-'04 KJ,it may not also.

http://www.visionxwholesale.com/factory-fog-light-upgrade-kit-02-10-dodge-ram-w-two-xil-um4010/

(can be found cheaper on Amazon)

They list it for the '02-'10 RAM's but they use the same fog light housings as the '02-'04 KJ.The adapters in that kit may work or may not.

I'm thinking not. My brother has an 07 Ram 1500 and I believe it uses 9006 bulbs in the fog lights.

The kit looks like it would work, bolting it in looks about the same, I know the light is the same so as far as the hole size / mounting it should be OK, much better light and can get whatever beam angle you want
Someone buy a set and try them

Quick thought brought up by my brother. Would a 9006 bulb work better? They are around 55w so they wouldn't be as hot. Plus, they are still an upgrade from the stock 42w?

I don't know if this will adapt to the KJ fogs, but I was going to look into it after I did the Ram:

Yes,those types of LED bulbs suck, about 1/2 the light output of a 25 watt halogen bulb. Those LED's are rated at like .1 watt each and the whole bulb assembly may put out 100 or so lumens. The fog light replacements I'm going with have five 10watt LED's that put out about 4500 lumens.

I like the sound of that. Can you post a link? I just put in some weak LEDs:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/26095089558...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_7842wt_1185

They're not terrible. But I was expecting a little more "umph" out of them.
