Remove driveshaft. Use the pinion flange as the reference. This is pretty standard. Super simple.

Yeah, tried that. But the adjustment requires you to remove the driveshaft, every time. After a few tries, you realize that's a damn pain and it's easier to adjust with the driveshaft in place. Hence the other measurements. At least in my experience, it's not a set it once and its all good. After you drive the vehicle, things settle a bit and the adjustment changes. I eventually settled on a delta between 0.0deg and 0.5deg.

This is why you NEVER final-torque she suspension until it's back on the ground, measurements have been set and tweaked, and verified. Then you finalize the torque on the fasteners. If critical, you use witness marks and lockwire.

my kj is lifted enough that I didn’t need to put it on jacks. Regardless I found the measurements changed a bit after a drive. YMMV
