Hmm.. Good question! Are those same spots on the other side as well??

My guess: The holes & indents you see are for the robotic arm that assembles the body panels on the manufacturing line. Indents get the arm into "close position" and holes tell the robot arm that it has a secure grip on the body panel it intends to attach to the vehicle.

just a guess though...
