Does the Liberty not have power assist brakes? Our 02 stops fine, but it seems like it just has hydraulic brakes with no power assist. There is what looks like a brake booster behind the master cylinder next to the firewall. No loose vacuum lines that I can find.

Most definitely power brakes in the KJ - but I do wonder if your vacuum line has a leak. Liberty brakes can tend to fade depending on the pads and rotors - but you should be able to tell the power assist is working.

Double-check those vacuum lines - and also your fluid level, pad thickness, etc.

Ever change the brake fluid. One of the most over looked maintenance on brakes.

My 2002 Export CRD Sport....with drum brakes at the rear...definitely has power brakes.

Follow all the good advise given above.

You can test if the Brake Servo is working by pressing ******* the brake while the engine is OFF.

As you start the engine you should feel the pedal go down slightly under your pressing foot....that means the Servo is working OK and the problem is somewhere else!
