Are the windows/regulators that bad?!

So I'm still looking at Liberty's on line...... I was doing a little research and read some reviews. A lot of people have mentioned that the back windows kind of fall into the door frames. Is this correct? It was also stated that the window regulators a a pretty bad design. What do you guys think? (BTW I'm really not concerned about regulator failure, but the rear windows falling into the door frame seems kinda bad.)

I've had my Liberty for 3 months now and I still haven't had trouble with the power windows. They all go up and down smoothly.

Don't let this issue scare you away from the KJ. It's an awesome vehicle. We can most definitely help you choose one

seems to be more of a problem on 06 and later but if you go on line lots of different models have problems as well. I silicone my channels every oil change anf at 132,000 no problems....knock on wood.
Everything wears out but it seems like the later window regulators are not lasting as they should

But like mentioned still a great vehicle. 132,000 miles 99,000 lifted and have only had to replace rear ujoints, idler pulley,front drive shaft, and right CV
which I consider more or less regular wear items

I silicone my channels

Very good idea indeed. I use dry silicone spray. It doesn't leave any residue on the windows. You can easily get some at your local autoparts store. Spray all the channels and rubber once a month and the windows will fly up and down.

Worse case if they break there is a kit to repair the regulator with a metal replacement for the plastic piece that breaks. So its not the end of the world if it happens but a pain in the ass that costs you some money..

Even better, there was a TSB released last week covering the regulators. I am not sure of the extent of the TSB but they replaced every window and all 4 regulators last week on my '07. I did find out that the new regulator design does require new glass.

Mine never fell off, they just made some creaking and did not seem to be a tight fit.

Like Tom said, alot depends on the year of the KJ you choose. The 2002 models seem to have fewer problems.

Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the ONLY one all fused up on this one. Is Jeep sourcing these regulators from G.M.???

I was thinking about an 07. You would think the later the model year the fewer the problems, but I guess that's not the case!

Mine never "went" in my 2007, but I noticed the fronts tipping as the window would roll up and down, and they jammed a few times when rolling up.

I had them replaced under warranty and have had no issues in 22k miles. I originally had issues within 18k miles. So, I think they are working fairly well.

(knock on wood) I haven't had any issue with the rears in my 2007.

Has anyone taken a regulator from an 03-04 and compared it to the 05-07 regulator? Just wondering how much difference there really is.

I know on my 03' they go up and down smooth as silk and no problems. I looked them over when i had the doors apart to work on the speakers this summer, they were well lubricated and pretty clean.

Give me a while and I'll let you know how well they work. Who knows, they could be from an earlier year. The glass has to match the tracks but the location of the connection to the regulators is different.

Yes, mine was in warranty. It's an '07 and still under full warranty. I only had 2 that were acting up but they did replace all 4 windows.

My '07 is still under full warranty also. So far, no issues with any of the windows. With my luck they will fail in July when the warranty expires .

Same here, I've had the doors apart, changing speakers and the regulators were clean and well lubed on my '03.

i dont want to say it but, i have an 2002 with almost 130k miles on it. It has the same regulators that it came with, and no problems at all. knock on wood
