Thinking about the phase of mods on the KJ...I think locking diffs and a regear is order.

With an ARB locker, can the stock diff be trusted for more serious trails or is it still a liability? I was thinking about getting the rear locked first but I didn't like that fact that it would push me into things where the front would be more ask risk of breaking the front diff.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

If going to go bigger tires and lower than 4.10s then steel diff for sure.
Also depends on how much you trust the 30a, with a locker I'd trust it for 97.2 % of what I have done but if you think bigger rocks/ mud/ lower gears/ more tire etc are in your future then the steels the way to go

Staying with the 245/70/17s for sure, so thinking 4.10s would be best.

I've never had a problem with the stock diff, and I've given it hell plenty of times. As for the regear, I run 265/75/16 and the stock gears work, but it'd be nice to have 4.10 for the highway driving. Either way, you cannot beat ARB lockers. Think I've turned a lot of heads doing some of the trails in the sierras, people don't expect the liberty to be that capable. Pro tip, if you buy used lockers have them replace all seals and o-rings. Am waiting to have mine serviced, at the moment with the air on and rear locker engaged, it hisses out of the diff breather tubes, not cool.

On the off chance you manage to break the D30a, the ARB can be transplanted into any other iron D30 diff.
