I am in the market for a used engine and had my eyes on an 2009 3.7L w/51,000 miles, but have now come across a 2012 3.7L with 10,000 miles for same price. What are your thoughts on purchasing such a low mileage engine vs one that has some miles on regarding reliability etc. The 10k engine comes with 6 month warranty and 51k engine comes with 3 month. Thanks in advance.

I realize its a no brainer, just nervous pulling the trigger considering its hardly broken in yet.
Yes, same price. Both are $1350.00 shipped

Take the 2012!!

Number 1, there's not much breaking in that needs to be done on these engines today, and Number 2, without knowing the maintenance of either engine you can be more comfortable with the low mileage engine that even if the oil hasn't been changed it's not that far out of the interval.

You won't be able to just drop the new engine in the Jeep and fire it up. You'll need to change the cam sprocket on the right bank and the reluctor ring on the crankshaft so the donor engine will work with your computer. Check out the Engine Swap thread in the How-To section.
