I have a 2007 jeep liberty my wife drives. Its has slowly progressed in making
more and more noise. The engine will tick at a consistant rate while cold and it continues sometimes while warm but very very quiet. The majority of the noise is while cold.
I have opened the hood while cold and the noise is quiet from the top side.
If I crawl under the car the noise is louder from under the engine. Shifting and working the clutch etc does not change the noise. Also the noise ramps with rpms it does not go away.
I would think if it were a rocker up top in the valves it would be louder under the hood and not under the car. Would a bad oil pump cause this. It is def not a grinding or squal or bearing sound but like a tick tick tick.
I have heard a few times where you will drive for just a couple minutes and the noise just drops very low but generally it slowly quiets as the engine gets warm. Im just looking for help before I go out and try to buy oil pump etc and waste money.
Thanks Levi
