Hello KJ Group, Hope all is well ... Thanks again guys for all the great tips over the years with my Liberty '06.
Here's a weird one for sure... Recently when driving the Liberty I could here a mild ticking... more like tinny clacking noise only when coasting about or under 20 mph. It's not real loud just obvious. Oddly, as soon as you hit the gas it stops making the noise. Also it also doesn't make the noise when idling or on start. The engine sounds great and no lights on dash, or performance issues. I looked under for anything hanging, and in the engine bay.
Its only when coasting around a corner, between buildings I hear it. It could be under my side, but not sure.
So, I brought it to the local mechanic who drove it and confirmed, only when you lay off the gas and are about 20mph or less the mild ticking/clacking is heard.
I will take it in this Tuesday to lift it up for a more thorough look underneath, but maybe one of you could put me in the right direction of what it is we're looking for?

Anyone possibly have this experience,
appreciate any suggestions,

-S

I have experienced this a time or two as well. It turns out that the 4x4 drive shaft is usually wearing out on my liberty. Take a flashlight and look at the shaft where it goes into the gearbox/transfer case. The boot inside of the rear knuckle gets old and brittle and tears or falls apart. This lets road dirt and rust in, and it starts making noise to let you know. I have seen the shafts on eBay and Amazon, but they are easy to rebuild yourself. There are rebuild kits and videos as well. Good luck!

Pick up some fuel injector cleaner. I had this ticking when engine was idling. After the cleaner burned through a tankful or two the ticking went away. That was 10k miles ago & it’s still fine

Sometimes there are stickers on the brake pads.Or there's a sticker on the rotor and they start to peel off.And they either hit the rotor or they hit the wheel. And your hear ticket tic tic tic tic tic. That whar happened to me.Its gotta be coming from one of your wheels. Hope this helps. Ttyl.

Very close if not right next door!.... We checked the drive shaft, and turns out the transfer case had a leak and was running out of fluid. The sound was the chain wearing. Got her to the shop now and I'll try LKQ for a replacement. Thanks again

Good catch on the tcase- otherwise I was going to say that is classic CV issue on the front driveshaft, it's usually the rear CV on the front one that has issues.
