You think industry standards are set by law?
Very relevant - why do you suppose all other manufacturers had quit using rear mount fuel tanks? Their cars had a tendency to catch fire in rear end accidents. In the 1970s Ford was sued over them and paid millions, then in the late 1980s early...
Did it? Industry standard at the time had removed the fuel tank from the rear on all other makes. The Cherokee was to industry standards but the Liberty and Grand Cherokee continued with the fuel tank in an exposed position long after ever other manufacturer had moved it. Besides Jeep/Dodge...
Agreed.
The hitch doesn't help at all. It was something dreamed up in a meeting with Ray LaHood and Chrysler officials when the government was demanding a fix to the exposed gas tank problem. My understanding was no studies or tests were done before the "fix" was quickly agreed to by...
What other vehicles are you comparing it to?
Diesel engine? That or you have the highest gas mileage Liberty on earth to get over 20% better mileage than it is rated. Most are lucky to make the EPA ratings - and they don't normally go up as the vehicle ages. EPA and reported mileage...
I would advise a reading class before driving too. He asked about a 2wd Liberty. I advised against it because there are MANY other 2WD vehicles that will handle better, better fuel mileage, and get around in adverse weather conditions better. I never said anything about needing 4wd to get...
Because they were designed for it - these are not. That and before lockup converters most automatic transmission were worn out at 100K - along with the rest of the car.
I wouldn't buy a 2WD Liberty. You end up with a high setting vehicle that is marginal at best in weather conditions and its harder to add weight for additional traction like you can with a small pickup and you still get poor fuel economy.
