The pet harness is the dumbest idea ive seen yet. They have this "ask the governor" program once a month on a local radio station. He was asked about this new law and he said they arent concerned about pet safety but distracted drivers. They feel that other drivers are more likely to be distracted by an animal up on the window then if it were to be buckled down. To me it just seems like another cash cow. Its supposed to $150 violation and a primary violation meaning they can pull you over for it. So in the states eyes its more distracting having a pet loose in your back seat then a girl putting make up on at stop lights or reading the revolving advertisment trucks hat drive around constantly.

No argument, just a counter point.

So would a dog or cat in the drivers lap be distracting? To whom then?

Well i can say my dog behaves well enough that she stays in the back seat. She doesnt even like to have her head out the window. So in my case i guess a dog would be distracting to other drivers. The only good reason i can find to have a seat belt for my dog would be in case of an accident.

That's exactly why you should have things tied down in case of an accident. Imagine a 40lb bag of dog food nailing you in the back if the head at 60 mph.

'Motorweek' on PBS just did a segment on LEDs. They showed replacement tail lights, running lights, etc. They last almost forever. The circuitry will fail before the bulb does.

Maryland is New Jersey Lite. I have heard the same deal about OEM only on exhaust with another car I owned. I researched window tint before I bought it earlier this year. I am AARP age, I just feel dumb getting pulled over, LOL.

@jen i figured that you would be the person to ask as far as lighting goes considering the theme of this thread. I was wondering if there was any way i could make my own relay harness fir a set of hids? Im pretty sure i have seen a thread else where that tells you what type of relay to use (single throw double post?) and shows a wiring diagram. Im pretty handy with wiring so that shouldt be a problem i just dont know what relay i need. I tried to google it but all i get is how to install a pre made harness. So if you could help me out that would be wonderful. Oh and btw sorry for jacking the thread back there. Didnt mean to go running off in a diff direction. I really am interested in the led housings.

Hids are illegal in nj. And they have no problem giving you an $80 ticket for un approved equipment. Along with window tint, over sized tires with out mudflaps and fender flares. And driving with fog lights on. NJ state troopers dont really care about it, its more local municipalities trying to get some extra cash.

*cough* pitman cops *cough*
( They're notorious in SJ)

Your state is allowed 4 forward facing white lights,so for you to drive with your low beams on and OEM foglights is perfectly legal otherwise your Jeep could not have been sold or registered in NJ.

You guy's are going to be getting screwed soon as inspections are going bye-bye unless your lifted then you must get inspected and get a "elevated vehicle approval certificate".

It's only required if your above 4 inches.

What amp load is on the lights? This will tell you how large of a relay you will need. if you are good at wiring you should know this. Just like fuse ratings and cable gauge.

Best of luck to you both.

Haven't decided about changing out headlights yet (HID or LED), but would certainly be interested in what options are out.

LEDs have a lot of promise so looking forward to seeing more on what you're working on.

Got me some H4 CREE LED replacement bulbs a month back, so far so good on the road, will update on off road performance in a few weeks. They claim to be DOT approved but will only know at my inspection which is due end of next month.

No one in New Jersey unless your above 4 inches of lift. If your at or above that you have to take a tilt test to see if your vehicle is stable.

4 inches of lift or 4 inches above stock height? Lots of difference and then who determines what 4 inches of lift is ? I mean how many folks know the difference between 3 and 4 inches on a KJ? Just curious

Vehicles have factory build specs such as height, length, width etc. There is a height measurement from the ground up to say the rocker panels or frame. In our case, I believe the measuring point is to the pinch weld below the rockers. If it's someone's job to check that a vehicle's height conforms to law, you can bet they have that measurement database. How closely they police vehicle height is a different issue.

Exactly, point I was making (or should say thinking about) is the fact many are running at 3.5-4 inches of lift, now add in the extra height of the tires and you'll be above the 4 inch rule. Most are thinking its just lift. For example mine would be in the neighborhood of 5.50-5.75 so of course above the 4 inch rule
Even at 3.5 inches and 245-75-16s you could be in the 4.50 inch range enough if the inspector wanted to be a prick could fine you ( or whatever they do)
