Since it has become an exercise of what can I still do with a broken foot, and the crown engine and transmission mounts showed up I decided to play with those. I cut the less than paper thin rubber webbing out so the 3M window weld could pass all the way through. I also went to replace the dry rotted front spring isolators and found the aluminum spring seat salt corroded onto the shock. So of course after pressing it of, yes I had to press it off, the shock needed paint. Had my 16 year old daughter help me choose color. We didn't have bilstein yellow on hand and I didn't let her talk me into pink, ended up with candy apple red. Didn't have a pair of bilstein stickers, but I did have a pair of Marzocchi stickers. Those that know I'm sure will appreciate it, those that don't it's ok we're still friends.

Just a few more pictures of what seems to be the never-ending project. Shiny parts

Here's the final picture of all that glorious access. I'm sure not long after I have it back on the road something hiding in here is gonna need attention; oil pan, starter, who knows?
and here is the fresh diff in it's new home. I'm in a walking boot now with the broken foot so I'm able to get back to this project a little bit at a time.

Well after tearing it apart in September it's all back together. Started right up and let it come up to temp. It got dark so no pictures, but I'm pretty sure you folks can imagine. Didn't get to drive it because it's 3 deep in the driveway and I got places to go. I'll take it for a little drive tomorrow, then put it back in the driveway the other way around and get started on the rear.

I'm going off memory instead of checking the thread earlier (we'll see how wrong I may be lol), I believe you went with a spartan helical in the front, by chance will you be doing the same in the rear if you don't have a limited slip already factory installed?

The only helical lsd I'm aware of available for the Chrysler 8.25 is DTT and it's spendy. My current rear axle has the trac-lok, so it's going to get a fresh clutch pack as I swap out the gears. I'd love the DTT, but the trac-lok has served me well so far and a rebuild will cost far less. I've been throwing a lot of money at this thing lately and I gotta keep my Sugar Momma happy. Plus I'm probably adding brakes, possibly even calipers and hoses to the list soon.

My list is getting large as well, thanks for the info!

Fun reading along , takes me back to 2004 /2005 and the start of the 04 build,
then the 03 build a few years later

Thanks, hopefully won't be too long before I can continue the project. Really excited to rebuild the rear diff!

Soooo, this is what a diffrential rebuild looks like after about 8 inches of snow in under 2 days, and now rain. Had to build a new stand for the umbrella because I tried to use it to keep snow out of the work area.

Noticed my rear diff doesn't have a magnet in the bottom while the donor axle does. Do I want that in there or is it best to leave it out?

Definitely leave it it, anything it catches cuts down on wear, just clean it when you change the oil.
I admire the progress you are making, my 'new' axle is still laying on my workshop floor.

Thanks. Wasn't sure if the risk putting the magnet in with a possibility of it coming loose and causing issues out weighed the reward of catching bits of metal. The one that came out of the junkyard axle seems like it might have had some double sided tape on it, but wouldn't it just be magnetized to the case.

I'd have thought so, the case is nice and thick, just make sure the magnet is powerful.

I would be leary of it shifting on heavy impacts myself, unless it was a beefy neodymium magnet, then all you have to worry about destroying a finger putting it in place LOL.

We have some gnarly potholes/sink holes around here, the double sided tape would be a nice piece of mind if it is not insanely strong.

Thanks JRB, I agree.
I got my pinion set with new bearings and races set. Put the rotation torque at close to 30 inch pounds per FSM and it feels awful tight. So I checked some other sources and most say 15 at the top end for new bearings, so I got a new crush sleeve and will give it another go I think. With Christmas coming it may not happen as soon as I like.

New crush sleeve showed up yesterday, so I took advantage of the cozy 12°f day outside and got the ring, pinion, and carrier back in with new bearings and races. Hopefully this is the last time. Ended up with mid 20's on pinion rotation. 15 felt really light. I don't love the pattern, but I think it's acceptable. This is with .006 backlash and everything fully torqued.
