Went to take my girls out after work today and the jeep wouldnt start. Ran fine yesterday and i dont currently have the luxury of driving to work at the time. First i got a p0201 and i figure meh thats life bad injector or plug. Tested resistance of the injector at 14.5 ohms. Seems ok swapped the connector from #1 with the #3 and it still didnt wanna start much. Word of advice all the plastic under the hood is as brittle as (insert something). So i was able to start it but with alot of throttle input and then i had to try to keep it up above 1k rpm. So after i swapped them i am only getting a p0500. Where is this sensor on the diff? How is the wiring routed? How would it fail sitting infront of my house overnight? Any help guys/girls?

Mostly likely wires broke they even sell a kit now to repair/replace the wiring with plug . Usually wiring becomes brittle right up near the body.

So i got under there and the connector itself seems like it has been replaced. There was a spot it had clearly been spliced in and someone used heat shrink. It also has wire loom on it and the wires look pretty solid all the way up. Could the sensor itself go bad. I have to take the diff cover off to get the sensor out?

I will have to check there where it meets at the top just to be sure.

If the sensor on top of the rear diff failed altogether you would not have your speedo working at all.

If the wiring looks OK I would advise you replace the sensor with a new one...easy to replace and no need to drain the oil.

I had a loose connector on the sensor on my Export 2002 CRD when still fairly new...CEL was on permanent...speedo would only go up to about 30 mph no matter how fast I went.

I fixed up the loose connector...speedo worked fine but CEL stayed ON until I had done about a weeks worth of start/stop driving at which stage the CEL went off and no more problems!

it's just like replacing a ckp or cps or a ****** sensor.
Just a bolt holding the sensor on.

Its in there pretty good then i had taken the bolt off and gave it a good tug. I will be back at it tonight. My speedometer worked last time i drove it but i dont know now cause i cant get it in drive to move it.

I had about a half hour till i had to go to work. Inspected the wiring again now that its light out. Still looks good. I may remove the heat shrink and see how it looks under there. Could have been getting moisture in there. It has been pretty humid the past week. I got the sensor out. My guess it is original has the chrysler star on it and the rubber o ring looks old. I will have some free time at work to track down someone who has it in stock.

Is it common to get the injector code when the speed sensor code comes up. It started today and idled like chitty chitty bang bang without the bangs. I got a couple 02 codes cause it is running rich. I am guessing.

That *****. I seen a couple other people on the forum get multiple codes with this one and they changed the speed sensor and they were good. I got a new sensor and connector i am going to install within the hour.

That sensor only directly relates to the TCM(trans) and IC.

It can cause a stall when slowing down, hard stops, due to the TCM not knowing the vehicle speed and shift properly but can not effect injectors on the engine.

Well its not fixed. I replaced not only the sensor but the connector as well. It will only start if i am on the gas. Once i let go its done. How does the sensor work? Like is it using the fluid splash or something does it use light idk. I am stumped my jeep wont run i got nothing. It runs like crap when it does. Anything is helpful. Could bad o2 sensors cause this code and theae symtoms. Whose near chicago and wants to work on my jeep tomorrow?

Forgot to mention abs and brake! Light came on.

There is a tone ring in the rear diff that signals how fast you go,

do you still have the P0201 code?

i wonder if clearing the code and driving it to see what codes pop up would be a good first step.

Did you disconnect the battery before you unplugged the connector? If not, probably just codes that need cleared.

If you have to stay on the gas to keep it unning, it's likely running lean.
Could've probably saved yourself a few steps and parts if you tested the connector first.. I mean, it's why mechanics charge diagnostics fees to figure out problems before replacing parts (well usually lol)

I had battery disconnected multiple times and the last time i disconnected both tied them together and turned key to ignition for 15 minutes. I had to get it out of the garage and parked on the street nearly impossible to get it into drive and keep the rpms up. Had to push it to parallel park it.
