Still not a recall,it's listed as a campaign which is a fix as need.Basically if you have a hitch you will get nothing. Those of you trying to get another free on by removing the one you have they will be looking for evidence of one that had been installed.

While not looking for something free, if that is what comes out of it, then so be it. I don't see why everyone is upset.

Personally i had always had a hitch on my list of mods, but never got around to it,(nor many other mods actually) as i bought my first house shortly after buying the jeep. The house took priority, so yes getting a free hitch is a great idea to me. And i don't think i should feel sorry about that.
On a sidenote i just took off the rusted thru rock rails yesterday LOL after only 3 years.

I do agree however about people who have one already and then decide to try and take advantage of the situation is bull.

If they are putting the hitch we need the tow package as well to support it lol

The way I understood the article is they will replace your hitch with one of their own. So the only ones that won't get a hitch is the Jeeps that came factory with a hitch

Friendly advice if you have a hitch, assuming the free hitch thing is legit:

1) Take it off
2) Go to the dealer
3) Get free hitch
4) Keep the better of the two (either the one you bought or the one they put on)
5) Sell the other one

how can you sell the other one? Who gonna by it? Every KJ in the country is gonna have a hitch by time this is over.

Think of it as less of a "hitch for free" and more of an "rear impact absorption brace with accessory carry hole". I wonder if they'd go to the expense of putting in the wiring - doubtful as it isn't necessary for the protection.

I added an aftermarket hitch and wiring over 5 years ago and have used it extensively. From the sounds of it, most people who use a hitch likely already have one. Existing hitches might get replaced as a part of this, so the net of it is pretty much bubkiss for many of us, and I am fine with that. Those that don't have one will end up with a hitch - a hitch that they may never use so it's 40-50 extra lbs they are hauling around to hopefully prevent a 1-in-a-million scenario. Especially if they don't include the wiring, it's just mostly additional weight being carried around in the form of a brace anchored to the frame.

I too don't see what the acrimony is about - I am glad they're doing this in the off chance that it does keep someone from a fiery death. I haul my 3 year old daughter around and if I didn't have a hitch on, I would be GLAD they are doing this. Each to their own, I suppose.

If they are replacing aftermarket hitches, are they going to compensate those who bought them? If not, then I'll keep my aftermarket and save myself the trouble from this recall

I don't think that's part of the safety recall.....

I wonder if they take off the old hitches (non mopar) and replace it....will they give us the old one back or refund us the money for purchase

Seems that it wont be a recall over here. They will check it if you want but wont contact everyone.
Let's see how this turn.

I don't know how laws apply to you but over here if they change a part that belong to you they have to give it back. So if you have a aftermarket hitch and they change it they have to give your old one back.

Hope all the "free hitches" come painted bright pink :evil::evil:
Of course now when you all get ready to buy a new Jeep just remember they'll be about 500 dollars higher to pay for your free hitch on the KJ
