Walked out to the driveway this morning and found this:

We are in Lubbock, staying with my in-laws for Christmas. There wasn't even much in the Suburban for them to take. All they took was a cell phone charger, and my wife's Third Day, Casting Crowns, Chris Tomlin, Kari Jobe, Cris Allen and Keith Urban CDs, and a small coin purse with all of about $2.50 in change in it. At least I have good glass breakage insurance with Allstate. Had the window replaced this morning by 10:00.

This is the 3rd time we have had stuff stolen from our vehicle in their driveway. But, the first 2 times was our mistake for leaving it un-locked, in broad daylight. They took more stuff those times, but never damaged the car. We learned not to leave anything in the car anymore. It just makes me mad. And my in-laws live in a very nice neighborhood. Grrrrr. Oh well. No-one was hurt, and nothing stolen or broken is irreplaceable.

That ***** big time. What's your deductible?

It's next to impossible to defend yourself from vandalism & theft but if your Suburban had an alarm you would have at least scared off the thieves. Maybe the best policy is to empty the vehicle of any trace of valuables, leave the doors unlocked and put a Club on the steering wheel.

I often hear of people getting their TJ's/JK's getting their soft tops vandalized, sometimes having stuff stolen too. Some people just have no morals.

I'm lucky, if I hear a noise in my back yard it's not a young offender looking for my Jeep's stereo but a raccoon,
and I can shoot the raccoon.

These two statements need to be reconciled:

This is the 3rd time we have had stuff stolen from our vehicle in their driveway.

And my in-laws live in a very nice neighborhood.

Just because the lawns are nicely kept, doesn't mean peoples kids are nicely kept.

Alarms don't really do that much good IMO
neighbor where I used to live had a "state of the art" alarm system installed in his Mustang. About every other night it would go off, he would look out and reset it , after a week or so it went off , he reset it but too late, in between times they broke in and got what they wanted. They were bumping it every night or so to see how long it would take him to shut it off , and that was just long enough for them to grab the goodies

Yeah. I agree with Tom. Even if I had glass breakage sensors on mine, it would have only taken about 10-15 seconds to grab the stuff they got from me and be gone. Kinda makes me prefer leaving it unlocked. But then if it got stolen, I would be up a creek for not locking it.

Very true. And even more true of the next door neighbor's 17 year old kid that just happened to have a party last night... But how do you go about proving that. That kid's been trouble since he was 3. We've always called him "demon child".

i had my GPS stolen out of my locked KJ a couple months back, so I can relate to ya... Nothing worse than knowing some stranger was rifling through your stuff. They got into my locked KJ and my gf's locked subaru without leaving any marks... methinks they used one of those fancy airbag seperators in the door jams

Thats why I dont lock my doors anymore except in heavily populated areas where a shattering window would get noticed.
Steal my old stuff? Thats an excuse to go buy new stuff!
Break my window? Thats just a PITA. Picking glass out of the carpet for weeks blows.
Of course, you could get a better security system...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gUATkM3WSQ

Permanent solution to this problem..., permission to treat the lowlife(s) like LF's raccoons (not that I encourage raccoon assassinations - lol). Guaranteed... no more thefts in less than 6mos. No more need to spend any $$ on alarm systems/Clubs etc., etc. Kinda like a few strategically placed snipers would put an instantaneous stop to Bank/store robberies. Probably many would do it for free - lol. No more $100K trials, no more BS. Hmmmm, maybe this doesn't actually work. Back in the old days when ya could shoot a bank robber, peeps still robbed banks. I give up.
