Step 1 should always be remove the oil fill cap,if by some reason you can not get the oil fill cap off(or it happens to break) if you already drained the oil you are SOL since you have no way of adding oil back into the engine.

In that vid you referred to your mechanical fan(part of the HD cooling) as a electric fan,it is not it is a mechanically driven fan that works in tandem with the electric fan, which sits in front of the mechanical fan(only HD cooling).

Removing the front skid plate will give more room to access the oil filter from underneath. It is a good idea to place some rags on the top of the front diff to soak up any oil spilled.Make sure you wash off the spilled oil or that spilled oil can drip making you think there is a leak, plus that spilled oil atracts dirt and junk that makes it a mess to do the next oil change.

As far as the oil filter it is 3/4 of a turn past when the rubber gasket touches the oil filter base.Good props about not double gasketing the oil filter.

Lastly Fram oil filters are the worst oil filters you can use, they have been known to collapse internally, starving the engine for oil.Use a good oil filter like Pureone or Napa Gold(WIX filters) for just about $1-$2 more then those junk Frams.

Dang, I should have read this about three hours ago. I just changed my oil and used a FRAM oil filter since it seem easy enough to screw in. I guess, I will keep this in mind for my next oil change and hope that my filter doesnt collapse in between. I also spent a whole lotta time the first time I changed my oil since the filter was hard to see. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

Perulator Pureone oil filters have a new filter that is in a gold box that is totally coated with a textured surface to ease install and removeal.

I changed my oil a few weeks ago and did a visual comparison of the Fram, MotorCraft, and SuperTech filters. The Supertech filter was so crappy I don't see how it filters anything. The Fram wasn't much better either. The MotorCraft filter looked a lot better built and it was only a few cents more than Fram. Oh and if your curious the MotorCraft filter for the KJ is FL820S.

MotorCraft is a Ford brand, not bad at all.The KJ oddly enough uses a filter very common on Ford vehicles and the MotorCraft filters will meet the OEM requirements for your KJ.

I've been using Fram filters for over 20 years on a variety of vehicles, without a single problem. I wouldn't loose sleep over the fact that you are using a Fram.

Hadnt watched this yet.. Nice job! At the end, you may want to say, "now that youve got the drain plug in, the filter back on, and the oil poured in, you can start it." Some people may take what you say literally and pour the oil in before putting the plug in.

That thing is called a cup wrench.. Its what I use and it works great. :)

And yea, thats the mechanical fan.. Which I would like to have..

ohh, when youre lubing up the seal on the new filter, I like to go ahead and fill the filter up with oil and let it soak. Ive found if I do that first it will soak up all of the oil if you fill it all the way up and be ready to go in by the time you get ready to put it on.

Edit: Nice tip on checking that its 5 quarts! Ive found that advance sales it for the same price as walmart but its a 4 quart jug!!

Use the 5 quart container to put the old oil in. Check with your local recycling service. Many of them will take your old oil. If you do a bumper trim on the newer KJ bumperhttp://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33291&highlight=bumper+trim getting to the filter will be MUCH easier. :) Anyone have any tips to reduce the mess pulling the old filter out, especially with a factory engine skidplate?

Use a zip lock bag or simular item to un screw the old one, it'll catch the old oil coming out of the filter...
