Hello KJ community!
My father acquired a Jeep KJ Renegade 2003, with a 2.8L diesel engine.
On the user manual, containing also VIM and other info, it says the following: DAIMLERCHRISLER CO JEEP KJ LE 85 30
Several mechanics have been unable to identify the maker of the engine. The answers we get are either:
1) VM engine (as indicated by Wikipedia as well)
2) Non-VM, probably german engine.
3) Hybrid of the two, made up by engineers who couldn't make either work and cobbled an engine together (this from a self-proclaimed former Jeep engineer).
Now, besides the frustration of not knowing who the heck made the engine, we'd also like to know if the car has a timing belt (mechanic 3 indicated that the gasoline KJs from that year had none).
Attached are pictures of the engine for you to identify.
Thank you so much in advance for your time and help.
Alan
