Help! I assume that it mounts on left side...

I assume that if the hood is popped open you get a hood message?
I assume that when you lift the hood, the light automatically comes on? When headlights on only, or anytime you open hood?

If someone has the under hood light please show me where the wires connect !
I also assume there is an installed hood ajar switch/ & wiring connected to where?
IDK but "except base model" notation is mentioned in FSM.

I assume there must be a way to add the light, and hood ajar switch?

Lots of assumptions! Thought that was only a Euro option. You could get a hood light, like from a Ram truck, or I believe our old mini vans even had them. They have their own mercury or tilt switch that turns it on when hood opens, no need for wiring a separate switch. Vehicles I've had that came with a hood light went on any time of the day, and with no dash notifications.

I added one to mine, I used a switch and wiring out of a WJ. Added an inline fuse and tied it into the pdc under the hood

Any photos of your installation? What light did you use?
I did find this Mopar light with mercury switch info..
Link:Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ - under hood lamp
Where does the hood open switch mount? What switch part # did you use?
I am also interested in having a switch, as I would like to mount more side Led's!!

I did find this schematic with mention of electrical connector, but probably for the ambient temp sensor..

I wonder if there ever was a special connector just for the switch somewhere?
Follow the brown/tan wire out of the BCM hmm...

As far as I know the "hood ajar" switch is part of the Intrusion Alert system...if someone tries to force the hood open while the doors have been remotely locked then the horn sounds...a bad switch can also cause intermittent cases of the horn going off while Jeep is parked!

On my Export 2002 CRD the switch is on the RHS...ie. driver side on my RHD Jeep, facing upwards, next to the airfilter.

On some of my previous trucks,l vans, etc i just wired in a underhood light with a button switch so when you raised the hood light came on or just a normal on -off mounted where you could easily see it. GM used to have one with a cord that was long enough to pull out and see down either side of the vehicle. Havent installed one on the 03 yet

Just a thought, why not get one of those cheap led click-it lights that you can stick anywhere. A 3 pack can be had on amazon for less than 20 schhhmaakarooooos.

Stick on lights ah why... when you can have properly mounted LED's?
I already have a waterproof 15 Led along the firewall from bluewater led with switch.

I want to add more lower accent Led strips, actuated by ajar switch.
Just thought it would also be nice to have the factory hood light as well.

Thats pretty slick!! Must be a game changer for the engine bay at night! I see what you're getting at now. Like Mr.TomMudd said, and IMO for simplicity, a button switch would be simple and effective. Looks like I'm adding some lights to the engine bay, did you write up your install of the first LED?

My Ram came with it, my Charger had the depression in the hood insulation for it so I put one in couple weeks ago.

So inline fuse, connections were soldered , heat shrink tubed, and wires off firewall hid by plastic wire loom tubing for a clean install.
Here is a link to 10 inch strip used, $16.. 15 LED / 10-inch Blue Water LED
Bluewater makes really good stuff!

Harbor Freight free flashlights. Keep 2 in the Jeep. A lot cheaper.
