Okay before anyone blast me about searching I have and found only one thread about tire size 255/70R16.

Stock 2002 Pre April 12

I am either looking to get 255/70R16 or 245/70R16. The tire I am going with will be yokohama generator a/t.

Now the 255/70R16 comes out to have a tread width of 8" and height of 30.3"
Ans not the 245/70R16 come out to have a tread width of 7.6" and a height of 29.7"

The question is should I just be safe and go with the 245/70R16 or risk it and go with 255/70R16?????

Note the jeep will never go off-road and wont make many sharp turns

Thanks guys. If anyone has pictures that will be a huge +++ to

These old shots are 245-70's with saggy springs :D You may still have rubbing but not as bad as the 255's.

245-70-16. 120k miles on stock suspension. I was rubbing at full lock only which I rectified by a clevis lift and some plastic manipulation.

Good info on the 245-70...that's the tire I was looking at since I need tires in the next couple months and can only afford tires (around $800 for all 5) and not my lift (another $1000 on top of that). *****, I'll have to buy tires again down the road when I lift, but it is what it is.

HELP ! I have 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited. I fell into 4 awesome 17" x 9" rims. Can I use these on the Liberty if I buy larger tires, like: 255x65x17 ? I never go off road, and want it safe for travel. What do u think ???

17 X 9 ...simple answer more than likely NO
Too wide of a wheel plus not knowing the backspacing its hard to tell if you could even turn the front wheels
Then 30 inch tall tires , you must have a lift on it?

No lift ! The stock tires and rims r on my Jeep Liberty.
The rims are nasty from living in the snow belt. Someone said that I could use the 17 x 9" rims if I put 255x65x17" tires on them. I need new tires and am stumped ! HELP !

Lots of "someones" out there that know very little about what actually fit and will work on a KJ. Sorry but a 30 inch tall tire on a 9 inch wheel is just asking for problems
Plenty of other 16 inch wheels out there from other KJs that will work just fine and will work much better

Running 235/70/17's on my freedom edition. Can I go to a wider tire? If so what size?

Depends on how much its sagged
Measure middle of the wheel to bottom of the flare and let us know what it is
If springs are still good you could go to a 245-70-16

Forgot to mention, no sag. Put a 2.5 lift kit on a year ago. It's a rustys, don't blast me I got it used for cheap.

You shouldn't have any issues with 245/75R16 then, I ran them on my Renegade with stock suspension with almost no rub turning.

245/65/17 would fit without a lift. I am running 245/70/17 with a lift and had slight rubbing until I remolded the plastic some.

245/70? Awesome! Thanks man! A little rub is fine, These rubbed on my sagged Libby when I first got it but now with the lift they actually look undersized. Thanks for the help, love the screen name "letfreedomring"
