I did when I regeared. As long as you're comfortable setting backlash and gear pattern replacing the clutches is the easy part. Download the factory service manual, it details the process.
I have the 2005 KJ service manual, it talks about testing the trac-lock but no detail on how to change the plates?? PDF reader page 139.

Sorry, I thought it did. Google and YouTube will cover it I'm sure. Search for it by axle (Chrysler 8.25), not jeep Liberty.

Well I'm gonna call the power steering stuff licked. Replacing the hose clamp on the return line has stopped any aeration problems I was having with the fluid and the pump is now nice and quiet and the power assist on the steering feels smooth and uniform. And I like knowing that I have the in-line filter on there that will just keep doing its work of slowly cleaning up the system.

Here's a photo from yesterday, just because

When I was mulling over finding a Wrangler one of my hesitations to driving one was the idea that I might come out to find random rubber ducks on my vehicle and would then have to figure out what to do with them
Some stupid t.w.a.t (freakin' filter!) in a Wrangler (with color matched wheels and painted undercarriage - sorry, but that shit is gay as hell. Come to think, her hair matched as well.) threw one at me as we were in traffic. I threw it right back at her. She had about 150 of the rutting things on the dashboard. Maybe be less of a rolling stereotype, chic?

Change that filter every year or so. It's cheap insurance.
I don't even change my auto-tra.nny in-pan filters anymore. They are essentially windows screen - the inline filter does the job MUCH better between the superior media and the magnet.

As for what I did to my jeep.... Had a scare.

Driving home, something doesn't feel right. Catching a hint of a coolant leak now and then in traffic, then I see the temperature going for the hot side. Fortunately I'm right in front of Advanced. Pop the hood and find that one of the constant-tension clamps I'd insisted on using on my hoses when we rebuilt the engine... Let go, right at the upper radiator fitting. Grrr..
2.5 gallons of coolant and a pack of various clamps. 80 bucks and it seems to be addressed.

i'm assuming by "let go" you mean the clamp physically broke.
and for the record, don't use non-tension clamps on hoses that mate to plastic fittings. that's a guaranteed way to crack something that might not be easy to replace.

No, it just decided it was no longer going to hold the hose on. (yes it was properly installed)

I assume you mean non-constant-tension, aka don't use acre clamps?
I've never had a problem with screw clamps on plastic radiators and the like. But then I'm very prone to using a torque wrench on such things if at all possible.

Which begs the question, why did I go to the trouble and expense of sourcing constant-tension (aka spring) clamps.... My son talked me into it. I will still say that one should use them if they are available and from a known vendor. But I'm sticking with screw clamps from now on. They are less expensive and easy to source. They should be treated as a disposable item, though. If at all corroded, or you don't know when they were replaced... It's time... And don't go cheap.

Went out a few days ago checking out some campsites in the area for a weekend away. I think the first one was my favorite as it was down a narrow overgrown twisty trail (aka fun drive) and had good shade.

Picked up some stock size new tires, went with the Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3's. I guess they are discontinuing them and in the stock size there are some good deal to be had right now. I got 5 just in case I jack one up and can't find one down the road so I will do the spare as well. There should arrive Sunday.

I haven't been driving it much, in past year or two, had that issue where it just loss power, we redid and added all new grounds, over 500 miles with no random shut down. Also added an oil pressure gauge to make sure I am making pressure. I need to do the spark plugs. I wish they had an unpluggable engine harness, the way they make those injector wires I think I have one with a short, and only way to replace it is to buy a kit and splice them unless you replace the whole harness which is really bad design.

I got 2 doors done, other 2 are pending and I still need to do the rockers. about 2 years ago all the front end was done, unfortunately I went cheap, and used Detroit Axle, never had any issues with their stuff, but about 250 miles in I am getting that thumping knock in front end, first thought was ball joints went bad, but Firestone has had it on the rack twice checking alignment and front end movement and they said everything is tight, so I am baffled short of popping stuff apart and physically checking them. One thing they wouldn't see in front end inspection would be struts failure unless their is visible leaking. It really sounds like a bad strut, the springs are new stock height so I haven't lost ride height. Other thought is some mount like a motor mount but nothing looks cracked or worn that I can see there, or the diff.

Prior to doing all the front end, I was running blizzacks on all the way around
with the front worn, it killed my front tires, so I had to get 2 new blizzacks, or all new all seasons, so that is what I ordered for now. I guess. Was thinking of finding some cheap black steelies but trying to keep my investment tight on this right now, as issues keep popping up, I want to keep it road worthy as I can as I budget the rest of the repairs. at least for now. GF says I should get rid of it but I love driving it, just need to make the body little more presentable, and work on the mechanical.

Got 4 of the mounted, guy stripped my lock key on my spare, so waiting for amazon order for a extractor to see if I can get it off, it's always something nothing ever can be easy. Pretty nice deal though for $60 each plus handling and shipping. Got 5, as the word is they are discontinued, all dates good with in a year shipping tax and handling came to $459.61, (may have a different ship charge, these came from Texas to Ohio). Then mounting so if you can get a good deal on mounting, there you. For 5 AT's, with 60k warranty , I know I won't come close to that, but to replace 2 of my Blizzacks it would been just over $350 so I couldn't pass it up, they have raised WL, I black walls out. Appears there were some good reviews here, my brother loved these on another car when he had them. I got use to the Blizzacks for heavy rain and snow, so I hope they fairly good, TirRack rating was ok as well. Ride is really nice, just hope they don't get loud, when I had my DynaPro they did that, so I had to remove them early drove me nuts the road noise.

Oh got them at Giga Tire

Updated:9/13/25, got a good SnapOn extra, heated it up and got it off, rear tire mounted, onward to other issues.

A week ago I had a bunch of codes go off, all related to the slow evap leak I had fixed a year ago. I reset it and it has not returned. I did get the GASCAP alert (along with the Pinball Tilt sound effects). Could not get it to reset for a couple of days, then it mysteriously went away yesterday. So now I wait like Damocles.

Today I rode shotgun with my 16 yr old daughter as she drove to her soccer practice in Quackers our 2009 KK. I may have left my fingerprints indented on the oh sh*t bar as she almost blew through a red light! Then I ran it through the car wash while she was at practice.

This was one of the worst parts of being a parent, for me.. Realizing that, for all my efforts, he could be killed due to some ******** blowing a redlight (EDIT - most definitely NOT calling your daughter said sort of person).
Train'em up, raise'em right... And then pray. That's about all we can do. (although I did make sure to give him some stress conditioning training after the professionals were done in the driving school.... - WEG-)

As for what I did... So, the OTHER hoseclamp on that hose decided to let go (in much less dramatic fashion, thankfully)... So, I happened to find this out when I was in the vicinity of my favorite Italian restaurant. Parked next door and was in the process of addressing it (calmly organizing my tools while it cooled down and I tried to find my gloves) when I realized they were open. Very tempting, to have dinner while it cooled, but I didn't. Easy fix once it got to around 150 and I was able to use a few paper towels to ease the heat a bit. New (worm drive) clamp on, and let's see how that goes...

Just ordered new motor mounts. Apparently it's been 4 years since I did these, and they were Pioneer brand... Which, although a common enough English word, is questionable quality. I ordered Anchor brand, 90 for the pair and will be here Wednesday. Tra.nny mount out of stock, but easy enough to do when they come in.

Which leads me to this... Who's interested in poly engine and motor mounts for our Jeeps? I know they aren't available... But I happen to know how to pull this off.. A few ways, actually. Who's interested?

She was approaching an intersection and the light that flashes yellow to warn you that signal light will be changing soon was already flashing. Instead of slowing down for the stop she thought it would be a good idea to give it gas while the signal was still yellow and beat the red light. After I yelled for her to stop, she safely stopped before we entered the intersection. No way she was beating the light. Bad timing on her part! She did drive much better on the way home from practice!

Well done. Hopefully the lesson sticks.
I had my son get quotes for insurance... In a 97 XJ, new driver, male of 16 at the time... 300 and change a month. Then I told him if he got a single ticket, he's getting his own insurance, or I'll sell the vehicle (mine, so it was a realistic threat though I'd honestly have just forbade him from driving). I haven't had a single problem with him driving. - touch wood- never so much as a ticket.
