I got 265/70/16's for my Jeep and I think I'm having buyers remorse. I don't see too many people on this site with the same size tire. Any reason why anyone chose the smaller tires??

Down in Florida, the wider the better. Floatation is better for mud, becasue you don't sink deeper and need more traction. I think the reason everyone else goes smaller is for ice traction (not an issue in FL, last time I checked.) For a street Jeep a wider would be more stable. So...I think you made the right decision. I hate buyers remorse!!!

Here's a question...
Is a 265/70/16 any real benefit over a 245/75/16?
The 265 is just over 0.78 inch or 19.812 millimeter wider. And the tire diameter is 0.14 inch or 3.556 millimeter taller and the Tire+Wheel Radius is only 0.07 inch or 1.778 millimeter bigger and the Tire Circumference is 0.43 inch or 10.922 millimeter greater!
If you air down a 245 cross section tire, I'd think you would get pretty much the same!
So, is there any point to going to a 265 tire... Other than looks?

Probably doesn't do much for MPG either!

Ya, but that is comparing apples to oranges!
You are comparing two different tires there!
If you actually compare lets say a 245-75-16 BFG Mud Terrain to a 265-75-16BFG Mud Terrain, then it would be an equal comparison!
Or lets say a Kumho Road Venture MT in a 245-75-16 to a Kumho Road Venture MT 265-75-16 tire.
Side Wall Height (inch) for the 245-75-16= 7.23 265-75-16= 7.82
Tire Width (inch) = 9.65 = 10.43
Tire Diameter (inch) = 30.47 = 31.65
Tire+Wheel Radius (inch) = 15.23 = 15.82
Tire Circumference (inch) = 95.72 = 99.43

Then I can see a comparison!

And I understand that if you have, lets say ten different tire manufactures making the the same size tires that they are all going to vary in size*.
However, if you have two different sizes of tire in the same make and model of tire they will reflect the size comparison of the above chart I made up.
If they didn't, then how would a customer be able to buy four tires of the the same size*?
Like I said, apples to oranges with your photographs!
You are showing four (4) different tires!
They may all say xx-yy-16, but at the end of the day every tire manufacture may have a slightly different way of measuring them!

So, using the Kumho Road Venture MT 245-75-16 compared to the Kumho Road Venture MT 265-75-16 as an example, there is a 1.18 inch or 29.972 millimeter difference in Tire Diameter.

So I'm ********!
It should of been a comparison with 245-75-16 to 265-70-16 tire size!crazy.gif
Either way, Is there any benefit to having a 265-70-16 tire on a Liberty?
That was my original question.

I was contemplating this idea the other day. In my mind there's two reasons to choose a bigger tire;
#1 increased ground clearance beneath the axles
#2 a larger tire allows you to roll over trail obstacles easier

Now there's not that much difference in tire heights between the 245 & 265 tire's. Using an on-line tire size coverter I found these numbers;

265/70R16
diameter of 30.6"
section width 10.4"
section height 7.3"

245/75R16
diameter of 30.5"
section width 9.6"
section height 7.2"

As you can see there's not much of a difference except for the width. As for airing done the tires on a Libby, I don't do it. I need as much ground clearance as possible.
