The last I knew, build sheets were free?

Go to any jeep dealer and ask for a build sheet. You will need to give them your last 8# of your vin and they can print it instantly off their computer. I have done this and it is free.

There were some pilot runs of the 42RLE before the "switch" so it seems as if your truck was one of the few that received the 42RLE as a test of the manufactuing process changes.

the April deadline should still be valid as a identifier of when the "shorter springs," revised power steering, and rear disk brakes came into effect. [it's been so long I am not certain that rear disks were part of the change over though]

They wanted the credit card info as a verification of identity when doing it with them through email if your name is not the name they have in their records, the person who bought it new before me in this case.

They weren't going to charge me anything, just use the CC info to check identity.

I see. I thought you meant they were going to charge you when you first said they wanted your cc#.

Yeah even if you go to Chrysler or Jeep official web sites, you need to prove you're the owner especially if their records aren't updated with you being the current / legit owner.

OK, disc brakes was a 2003+ thing. No '02 has disc brakes in the rear.
42RLE changeover happened gradually, but full blown 42RLE production was definitely May of 2003.
If you have a really, really early '03, you're almost guaranteed to have the 45RFE.
Pre-Lowered vs. Lowered, happened some time in April '02. No one knows exactly which date but it does NOT correlate with the change of the 4x4 badging locations. But what we do know is that ALL lowered KJs have the 4x4 badging on the rear, but SOME pre-lowered KJs DO ALSO have 4x4 badging on the rear, and not on the sides.

What else.... Trail Rated badges started with 2004s in I believe October of '03. 2005 MY KJs got the new and improved, real metal Trail Rated badge.

Gasket kit? There is no gasket, just RTV.
I have a 2002 with the 45RFE (two filters in the transmission) and a 2003 42RLE (just one cooler return filter).
The parts manual does not show any filter at all in the 42RLE, but has both for the 45RFE.
Did you find a part number for your filter?

Oh and one more thing... even build sheets can be incorrect. There's a few members who have gotten build sheets on their KJ which indicated they had the 45RFE transmission.... and they didn't. Sad part about it is that their Jeeps were 2004s. :)
