I'm now defenetly going for it, now, the front diff. flexs at does mounts right?
I still dont think you really know what you are getting in to
and I dont think you under stand the cost involved with this job
for starters ,it starts with the transmission
you need to drop the trans you have and do 1 of 2 things
1 would be replace the entire unit with 1 from a 4wd
cost = $$$+
or 2 replace the tail section
not sure on cost but it will require you to know how to open up and work on a transmission cost = who knows
then you need the drive shafts to match
remember that you will have to get the DS from a KJ set up like yours
so you will have to find a donor with an auto if you have auto
then pull EVERY part of the drive train from the transmission back
less the rear diff
you need to get under a 4wd and look at all the stuff you have to buy/move
I have done as much as over haul a V8 engine in my old car and installed gears and lockers and and SYE ,not that it is that hard but still had to remove the T-case
I would not be willing to take on this task as it will require to much work
this is going to have your rig down for several days if not weeks
Jut trying to point out things that I dont think you quite under stand
What x-fer case you putting in????
I'm gonna try to keep it as simple as possible so...cmmand trac I think is gonna be my choice
Good....now you won't have to mess with the center diff....
yea I'm just gonna try to get it stock....then as stuff start to break, ill upgrade
I'm like that too... No use in getting rid of good parts....
yea I'm just gonna try to get it stock....then as stuff start to break, ill upgrade
You want it broke first......I got a BFH and a 6 foot crow bar and a bunch of duck tape.....haha
But I never did a 2wd/4wd conversion before so I don't know how to help ya, but I could break it for ya.......
Dave
I can help with the breaking part.....there's a hill in my neighborhood....
...you mean an ant hill don't ya....you are in Florida, remember......

1000th post!!(band)
ok
4x4 ******----$500ish
transfer------$350ish
front and rear ds--$250ish
cv's---------$300 pair
front diff.---$400
transfer shifter (lever)---$90
plus labor......around....1K all I need done is the transmission swaped and back int my garage.
reprogramming from dealer....idk that but I'm guessing around another 1K
it might not be the best thing to do with a 2wd but there's ppl out there spending 15K+ in SFA swaps cuz they allready have Independent suspension, that's kind of me but instead of IFS to SFA I'm going 2wd to 4wd, its just something I wanna do and I want to get it done,
u sound like a guy with a lot of knlowdge on 4x4's just like tjkj2002 so I would appreciate if u can help me with this crazy idea, u have allready told me many times not to do it but I don't think I'm changing my mind sir,
so everyone, please, just try to help me
Somewhat agree, new parts and better parts is better to start.Putting one of those TerraLow kits in the 231 is a waste of time and money, your still stuck with a polished ****(just like a locked D35) since you can not go over 2500rpms with the TerraLow kit or you will blow the t-case apart since they can not handle higher rpm's.Best bet if your going to do it right might as well get a RockTrac t-case from a '03-'06 Rubicon,it's a direct bolt in though the shifter will be backwards, but heck if your willing to spend $2000 on a t-case and then the $$$ on new driveshafts you might as well opt for a AtlasII t-case for $500 more. But then if your going to all that trouble might as well SFA the damn thing since the D30A most likely will not hold up to a 4:1 t-case anyway.I am trying to help
Your cost must be for very used equipment
whch means it is going to cost you even more
Then there is the "why only do it 1/2 @$$ed?"
for example
why go with stock drive shafts ,that are used by the way, that have CV joints that are know to fail? the better way would be to go with rebuilt DS's with U-Joints on the ends
then why go back with a stock T-case
pick one up then "beef it up"
put on an SYE ,doing a new rear DS any way, have a HD chain and shaft kit put in and then do a 4 to 1 kit and a 2wd low kit
that makes for a $2K T-case but if you go 231 it will be direct bolt in
provided you have the correct transmission tail shaft
