Kid just brought me her jeep.Home from college and I need to try to deal with this this weekend. Apparently it has struggled to start and or stay running the last week. Does have a CEL on. Oreilly's gave her the P0157 code which is an o2 sensor as far as I can tell. 155 k miles. Original Coil packs. Plugs have only been changed once. Battery is a year old. Apparently tonight they had to start in in neutral and go to drive to get it here. It would not start in park and stay running. Died in the drive and started up again. Turned it off and restarted 4-5 times. Idles fine. I did notice it is getting tough to get it out of park without wiggling the shifter. seems to want to stick. My plan tomorrow:
check battery connections / voltage and alternator output
    Check Fuel pressure
    Change plugs
Is there anyway to test Coil packs?
O2 sensor would not cause a non start problem would it?

What else do I need to be doing?

    Thank you for your help

Sounds more like a physical problem to me...not electrical.

The transmission seems to be causing drag on the engine when in Park.

This morning outside at 33* it started right up with light pressure on the pedal and will idle smoothly with the pressure. Let off the pedal and it dies. That was in park. Does the same thing in nuetral..
    60 psi on fp
12.69. On battery. Only drops 11.69 on atart up.
    14.19 while running
Should i start by changing plugs first ..then. CP if the problem is still there. Im sure both need replaced ..just trying to spend the least amount of money.
Am i correct that code above..o2 sensor is not the start up problem
    Thank you

Plugs where in terrible shape and were around .070 and champions to boot. Put in new NGK plugs and it starts and runs on its own. Will see if I can get lucky and erase the code tomorrow. Maybe the poor ignition burn caused the o2 sensor code?

Is there any way to test coil packs?
New plugs didnt fix it completely. Started right up this morning but had to lighlty us pedal. Died as soon as i let off. The 4th time it ran on its own and continued to idle around 1200. Autozone has a set of coil packs for 127$ if needed. Any other suggestions ?
    Thank you

Does it ever idle down, or only up at 1200? Kind of sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Check the long piece on the driver's side, both the hard plastic and the rubber boots. Check and clean the IAC and throttle body.

Yes it does. After I posted earlier today I started and drove it again. At tat time I noticed that it idled around 6-7 hundred. It does idle smooth as well as run down the highway smooth. The light did come back on with the 157 code. After the initial hick up this morning it has started and ran correctly the rest of the day. I guess we will see what morning brings

Thank you for the link. I will see.if i am smart enough to read through it. This car worked fine for 2 days. Now this morning the same thing again. It sat for 2hrs today and did it again. Left work and went to a night class 3yrs tonight.
Will see.what happens in. Couple hours. When it gets going it is fine. If any of the test numbers above dont fit parameters please. Let us know what to check next. Thank you
