Hey guys just replaced the rear shocks today and ordered the upper control arm. Best plan of attack for that feat?

Unbolt it. Hit with hammer. Put new one on. Rock jeep to get balljoint to fall in place. Bolt it.

I remove the whole bracket on ones that have rust or never been off, that way you can easily get the bolt out that holds the ball joint in place. Have seen a lot really rusted and hard to remove. Have to remove the jeep balls as well though so few more steps but works for me
Done a lot that way
May have to rock from one side or another as well to get everything aligned

I remove the entire bracket too, makes it easier to work on the assembly on the bench rather than fighting it overhead. Make sure you have a good size breaker bar, the 3 bracket bolts are big, nice and tight, and have loctite on them for added fun.

The way I do it on stock height ones, jack stands in front of the lower control arms and jack under the pumpkin, Keeping it up more level makes it easier to install.
Lifted ,...well no need for jackstands etc, just roll under and replace

He just noticed the thread title lol. Can this be done on a lift? Rather much do so on one think it'd be easier. But if it's more of a pain I won't. Just to see if I understand correctly, jack the rear off the ground, put jack stands on the rear axle and let the weights of the vehicle rest on the axle?

Worked out okay other than making up cuss words and banging fingers. Basically jacked it up and set it on jack stands then used the jack to raise and lower the rear diff as needed
