yes thats what happens you're lucky that the wiring did not catch fire.
Happened to a buddy of mine 20 years ago, had some high powered lights wired up, we met and were doing a deal along the road and we see smoke coming from under his hood on the old Ford
, Only thought was.........Gotta put it out fast!

It's not mine. I saw this in the parking garage at work. At first I was like "Holy crap what the hell?!?" Then my second thought was "I gotta get a pic to post. The guys on the forum will love this."

What make of lamps did you have the higher power light bulbs installed in?

That's what happens when you ignore the "maximum bulb wattage" for your lamps.
A buddy of mine used to drive about with his Hella500's on (only a 55 W bulb) with the plastic covers on. He didn't melt the covers but he did crack the lens of the Hella500's.
