nv 242 swap

from an 05 into a 2002
the 2002 has the 45rfe, the 05 is auto so should be the 42re.
will the swap work?

any little details i need to know, or straightforward?

You will need the 242 shifter,new front driveshaft,and a rear driveshaft from a '02 KJ that came originally with a 242(can not use the '05's rear driveshaft).The fulltime light in the dash most likely will not turn on either,in fulltime it still will say part time 4wd.

can you elaborate on why i need a different driveshaft other than why i have bolted to my NV231?

wouldnt the full time light on the dash work since the sensor is a 5 position? or will the wiring harness be different?

i can get the shift handle from the 05

The 242 is longer then the 231 so your rear driveshaft is to long and the diff end is for a yoke and the correct length one from a '05 Kj uses a flange.Your front driveshaft will be to short.

Regardless of t-case the shift slector sensor is the same,has all 5 spots but the BCM only senses 4 for the 231 and all 5 for the 242,not reprogramable as far as I know.

so i am probably better off looking for a 02 or 03 KJ with the 242, and grabbing both driveshafts at the same time...
the dash light doesnt bother me so much as it will still indicate 4hi
and the lever has the positions labeled too.
