Actually I have seen what they would offer me for actual trade in,as in they actually seen my KJ(still IFS though) and was offered way less then $4500,even less then $3500,oh and modified Jeeps(and the like) actually sell pretty good here in Colorado. But yeah I'd never sell mine, but it is currently appraised at $31,000 for insurance reasons.tjkj, if you tried to trade that in (like you ever would) they'd offer you some rediculously low amount. They can't resell such a heavily modified vehicle. To the auction!
And how is YOUR 02 Sport worth $2600 more than MY 02 Sport?????? It's gotta be the milage and the manual.
Why is your 03 Sport worth $3500 more than my 02 Sport? Because mine has 107,000 miles and a 5-speed? That's a crock man. That really ****** me off!
How many auto auctions & late-model used car lots, which are generally mom & pop, not huge corporations, are going to be hit hard by these cars being crushed instead of re-sold?
Wow they really tightened it up then, because i looked over the paperwork at the local dealer when they first started it and it wasn't near that difficult to get the rebate then.
They did say the funding ran out way too soon, so i guess with the next batch of funding comes stricter requirements.
Ahh ok, thats probably what it was then. Because the dealer here in town was giving them away so fast that their side lot filled up with old beaters, and i know for a fact that most of the people that brought them in hadn't owned them for a year let alone a month.
Dude you got so ripped off!!!
Please, if anyone on here is thinking about replacing their KJ don't go cash for clunkers, sell it to someone who wants it, and get a little more money for the effort.
I have seen all kinds of models being traded in as a Clunker, which is anything that gets 16 MPG or lower. These jeeps qualify, because of their low gas mileage.

$4500 in a tax credit towards your new vehicle, ok thats not terrible, but then your back to car payments, higher insurance, higher registration tax every year, the list goes on and on!!!
I bought mine for $6k and that was the cheapest i could find any year KJ around these parts, a 4x4 in the midwest is worth money. Rusted beater pickups with working four wheel drive go for $1500, i know a few that run used car lots and thats the starting price if the 4x4 works!
So i can't imagine giving up a KJ for $4500 towards a new piece of *** Crap.
For the record i average 23-25mpg in my 03' KJ. A little less with the whole family packed in it, around 19-20mpg. Still not bad considering my neighbor who bought a brand spanking new Chevy Silverado and gets like 17mpg if he is LUCKY...
Hard...
I know a guy here that runs a little family used car lot, he said the auctions have dried up. And people are even going out and buying a $500 clunker so they can take it to the dealer and get $4500 in credit. How dishonest is that crap??
